SAVANNAH, Ga. – The second-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team won the final three singles matches to turn a 4-2 deficit into a 5-4 victory over third-ranked SCAD Savannah (Ga.) in a four-hour marathon match on Thursday evening at the Bacon Park Tennis Courts.

After falling behind 2-1 following the conclusion of doubles play, the Blue Raiders (2-1) rallied and won four of the six singles matches, including a pair of third-set tiebreakers by LWC freshmen to take the tightly-contested victory over the Bees (3-2).

Camille Gbaguidi and Paige Murdock (ranked No. 3 in ITA doubles national rankings) defeated Natalia Kattah and Maria Prados Cid 8-1 at the top doubles flight to put SCAD Savannah up early 1-0. Alex Shchipakina and Jovana Peric answered with an 8-5 win at the third-seeded doubles match over Valerie Droop and Julia Albuquerque (ranked No. 11 in doubles) to level the match. The Bees pulled ahead after Karina Rovira and Johanna Weber defeated Minja Gligic and Fiona Curty at the No. 2 doubles match 8-5 to give SCAD Savannah the overall 2-1 edge heading into singles play.

The Blue Raiders once again leveled the match thanks to Kattah (ranked No. 13 in singles) winning 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 4 singles match over Weber (No. 39).

SCAD Savannah then started to pressure the Blue Raiders by winning the next two matches to come within one point of clinching the win.

Curty suffered a 6-3, 6-3 loss at the No. 3 singles match to Rovira, snapping an 18-match win streak for Curty, to put the Bees up 3-2. Shchipakina (No. 19) then fell at the top singles flight 6-2, 6-1 to Gbaguidi (No. 1) to increase the advantage to 4-2. When Shchipakina dropped her match, Gligic and Peric were both down a set in their respective matches while Prados Cid was up a set at the No. 6 singles match.

But the resilient Blue Raiders began pushing back, first with Prado Cid (No. 44) beating Albuquerque (No. 18) 6-4, 6-2 to trim the lead to 4-3.

Peric then won the second set at the No. 5 singles flight to force a third-set tiebreaker against Droop. In that tiebreaker, the freshman edged out her counterpart to take 4-6, 6-0, 6-4 victory as the match would be decided at the second-seeded singles match.

After dropping the first set in that match 4-6, the freshman Gligic responded with a 6-4 victory over Murdock (No. 46) in the second set to force a third and decisive set for the match. Gligic kept the momentum rolling in that set and came away with the 6-2 win to secure the 5-4 come-from-behind victory for the Blue Raiders.

The Blue Raiders are back in action for a pair of matches on Friday, first taking on SCAD Atlanta (Ga.) before battling NCAA Division II institution Armstrong State (Ga.).
