Box Score 2 HARDEEVILLE, S.C. – The eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team split their final two games at the NAIA Southeastern Challenge at the Richard Gray Sports Complex.
The Blue Raiders won their opening game against Faulkner (Ala.) 2-0, but fell in a nine-inning contest against No. 10-ranked William Carey (Miss.) 5-3.
Lindsey Wilson finishes the Southeastern Challenge with a 4-2 record.
GAME 1 – Lindsey Wilson 2, Faulkner 0
A two-run home run by Sydney Fourman in the top of the third inning was the difference maker in Lindsey Wilson's opening win over Faulkner (2-6).
Casey Bryan (2-1) tossed her second complete-game shutout in as many days, surrendering just three hits with four strikeouts on the day. She allowed just four baserunners all day and did not issue any walks.
Bailey Mize recorded three of the Blue Raiders seven hits in the game. Fourman, Cassie Kooker, Amy Rogers and Lauren Lett accounted for the final LWC hits. Fourman's blast was the lone extra-base hit in the contest for Lindsey Wilson.
GAME 2 – Lindsey Wilson 3, William Carey 5
The Blue Raiders led 2-1 heading to the final inning, but the Crusaders (10-1) scored one run in the top of the seventh to force extra innings. The two teams traded a run in the eighth inning and after William Carey scored two in the top of the ninth, Lindsey Wilson was unable to counter in the bottom half of the inning as the Blue Raiders suffered their second loss of the season 5-3.
After the first three innings went by scoreless, William Carey took a 1-0 lead in the fourth after a pair of base hits and a Blue Raider error.
The Crusaders threatened to score again in the top of the fifth after loading the bases, but Lett struck out the next batter to end the threat.
Lindsey Wilson finally dented the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth after a two-out single by Callum Pilgrim scored Amy Rogers to tie the game. The Blue Raiders then took the lead in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a solo blast by Fourman, her second homer of the day.
William Carey tied things up in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly with the bases loaded, but the Blue Raiders threw out the runner attempting to reach third from second to end the inning.
With the international tiebreaker rule in effect, the Crusaders scored one in the eighth on a groundout, but the Blue Raiders answered with an Amanda McIver base hit to score Pilgrim in their half of the inning.
The Crusaders scored two runs in the ninth after a pair of singles and an RBI groundout. This time, Lindsey Wilson was unable to answer as they Blue Raiders fell 5-3.
Lett (1-1) suffered the loss surrendering all five runs, but just two were earned, on nine hits.
Rogers and Samantha Luckett both recorded two hits in the loss.
Lindsey Wilson is back in action on Tuesday for a doubleheader at Union (Ky.).
