Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. -- No. 8 Lindsey Wilson softball posted a 1-1 record today to close out the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Alabama.
The Blue Raiders (11-6) won today's opener 4-0 over Concordia (Mich.) but closed with a 1-0, 8-inning loss to Faulkner (Ala.).
Lindsey Wilson scored three times on five hits in the first inning in the win over Concordia. Callum Pilgrim drove home a fourth run in the fourth inning to give the Blue Raiders the 4-0 lead and ultimately the win.
Pilgrim and Cassie Kooker each finished with two hits as Lindsey Wilson out-hit the Cardinals 9-2.
Casey Bryan hurled a complete-game shutout to improve to 5-2 on the season. Bryan struck out seven while allowing just the two hits.
Faulkner's Caitlin Perry shut out the Blue Raiders over eight innings in a 1-0 loss.
The Eagles scored the lone run in the top of the eighth with the assistance of the international tiebreaker rule -- where a runner opens the inning on second base -- and a Lindsey Wilson error.
The Blue Raiders failed to score in the bottom of the eighth despite having a runner on third and just one out.
Lindsey Wilson ended the game with three hits compared to seven from the Eagles.
Taylor Slade suffered the hard-luck loss despite pitching 7-1/3 innings without allowing a run -- the run is a team-charged run due to the runner beginning the inning on second base.
Slade scattered seven hits while striking out six. Perry also finished with seven strikeouts en route to the win.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action on Friday, March 10, as the Blue Raiders host a pair of teams in the LWC-Campbellsville Crossover Challenge at Lindsey Wilson Park. Lindsey Wilson faces Rio Grande (Ohio) at 1 p.m. CT and Kentucky Christian at 5 p.m. CT.
