Box Score 2 CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team split a Mid-South Conference doubleheader on Thursday against No. 6-ranked Campbellsville (Ky.) at Veterans Memorial Park.
The Blue Raiders (33-8, 19-1 MSC) rallied to score six runs in the seventh inning of game one for a 7-5 victory. Campbellsville (31-9, 18-2 MSC) scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 9-8.The loss snapped a 22-game winning streak for the Lindsey Wilson.
Cassie Kooker, Amber Foukes and Samantha Luckett all drove in three runs on the day. Kooker and Foukes each hit a home run.
Game 1 – Lindsey Wilson 7, Campbellsville 5
After three scoreless innings, Luckett got the Blue Raiders on the board first with an RBI single to right field in the fourth inning to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead.
Brianna Scott began the bottom of the fifth inning with a solo home run to tie the game 1-1. After a single and an error, Jacqueline Roof hit a bases-clearing double to give the Tigers a 3-1 lead. Campbellsville would push across two more runs to increase its lead to 5-1.
After three-straight singles by Luckett, Bailey Mize and Amanda McIver, Luckett scored on a groundout to cut the lead to 5-2. Kooker drove in two runs with a single to center field making it 5-4. After a Sydney Fourman walk, Foukes hit a three-run home run to give Lindsey Wilson a 7-5 lead.
Casey Bryan (18-3) earned the victory with her 16th complete game of the season giving up four earned runs on six hits and striking out five. Kooker, Luckett and Mize all recorded two hits in the game.
Game 2 – Lindsey Wilson 8, Campbellsville 9
Kooker hit a leadoff solo home run in the top of the first to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead. After Fourman was hit by a pitch, Foukes drew a walk and Amy Rogers reached on a single, Luckett drove in two runs to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0. Mize hit a two-run home run in the third inning increasing the Blue Raider lead to 5-0.
Campbellsville struck for three runs in the bottom of third all coming with two outs. Hailey Szpila drove in two with a single to right field trimming the lead to 5-2. Scott drove in the other run of the inning making it 5-3. Roof gave Campbellsville a 6-5 lead in the bottom of the fifth on a three-run triple with two outs.
After McIver reached on an error with one out, Bryan and Kooker each recorded singles to load the bases in the top of the sixth. McIver came around to score on a fielder's choice to tie the game 6-6. Fourman gave Lindsey Wilson an 8-6 lead on a two-run single with two outs.
Tori Humphrey led off the bottom of the sixth with a single and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Humphrey later scored on an error to trim the Blue Raider lead to 8-7.
Scott reached on a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh and Madison Mudd reached on an error to put runners at second and third with no outs. After Roof drew a walk to load the bases, Scott scored on an error to tie the game 8-8. Humphrey drove in Mudd for the 9-8 victory.
Bryan (18-4) picked up the loss pitching 1-2/3 innings of relief giving up three earned runs on three hits. Foukes went 3-for-3 in the game while Fourman, Luckett and Mize all drove in two runs.
The two teams wrap up the series tomorrow at Veterans Memorial Park in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 p.m. CT.
