Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Top-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball fell 1-0 to No. 4-seeded Madonna (Mich.) on Monday in the 2017 NAIA Softball Opening Round Tournament -- Columbia (Ky.) Bracket at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
The Blue Raiders (39-12) tallied just four hits against the Crusaders (31-14) and left seven runners on base in the loss.
Amy Rogers led Lindsey Wilson with two hits in two at-bats and drew one walk. Bailey Mize and Lauren Lett had one hit apiece.
Six different Crusaders recorded a hit on Monday, led by Kayla Rebain's two-hit effort.
The game's lone run came with one out in the bottom of the fourth inning. Madonna loaded the bases on a walk and consecutive singles by Rebain and Breanna Keethler. Kerstyn Comerzan came through in the clutch -- lifting a sacrifice fly to right field to drive home Julia Cavagnini.
Lindsey Wilson put the potential game-tying run on base in the top of the seventh inning but could not push across a run. Rogers led off the frame with a single and was lifted for pinch runner Madison Bryant. Pinch hitter Abby Whelan attempted to move Bryant over, but she popped up her bunt for the first out of the inning. The next batter, Lett popped up to second base before Cassie Kooker lined out to right field on a hard-hit ball to end the game.
Casey Bryan pitched all six innings for the Blue Raiders -- allowing the lone run while working around seven hits and a walk and striking out three.
Erin Combs authored a complete-game shutout for Madonna. The Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference's Pitcher of the Year improved her record to 22-7 while walking three and striking out three.
With the victory, Madonna advances to the winner's bracket final, where it faces No. 2-seeded Corban (Ore.) on Tuesday at Noon CT. Corban defeated fourth-seeded Taylor (Ind.) 11-7 in nine innings on Monday.
Lindsey Wilson slips into the elimination bracket and plays Taylor on Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. CT.
