Box Score COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team closed out day one of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Tournament with a 3-1 loss to No. 19-ranked Mobile (Ala.) at the South Commons Complex.
Kalli Harris led the way for the Blue Raiders (9-2) with three hits and driving in a run. Lindsey Wilson was outhit by a slight margin 7-6.
Taylor Slade struck out the first two Mobile (13-4) batters in the bottom of the first inning. Allison Vincent got on base with an infield single then scored on a Taylor LeDrew triple giving Mobile a 1-0 lead. Slade struck out the next Ram batter to end the inning.
Cassie Kooker led off the top of the third inning with a single up the middle. A fly out advanced her to third and a two-out single from Harris tied the game at 1-1. Savanah Woodruff led off the bottom of the third and advanced to second on a wild pitch. An infield single moved Woodruff to third. Allison Vincent gave the Rams the lead on a single that scored Woodruff. Mobile added another run in the inning off a wild pitch to increase its lead to 3-1.
The Blue Raiders had runners on first and second with one out in the top of the sixth. Mobile was able to end the Lindsey Wilson scoring threat with a strike out and a force out securing the 3-1 lead. The Rams got the first two Blue Raider batters out to begin the seventh. Lindsey Wilson then had a walk and a single to put runners on first and second. A pop out would end the game as the Blue Raiders fell 3-1.
Slade pitched six innings giving up three earned runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.
Vincent and LeDrew led the way for Mobile with two hits apiece and each driving in a run. Sydney O'Connor earned the win pitching 5-1/3 innings giving up one earned run on five hits, allowing three walks and recording five strikeouts.
The Blue Raiders close out the NFCA Tournament tomorrow with a pair of games. Lindsey Wilson takes on Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) at 10 a.m. CT and No. 8-ranked William Carey (Miss.) at 3 p.m. CT.
