Box Score 2 COLUMBUS, Ga. - The No. 8-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team split a pair of games on the final day of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Tournament at the South Commons Complex.
The Blue Raiders (10-3) began the day with a 7-2 victory over Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) before falling to No. 8-ranked William Carey (Miss.) 10-2 (6 innings.).
Game 1 : No. 8 Lindsey Wilson 7, Lindenwood-Belleville 2
The Lynx (8-8) struck first in the first inning. Paige Kuefler reached first on a walk then advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt. Kuefler then advanced to third on an obstruction call and came around to score on a stolen base. Callum Pilgrim led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo home run tying the game at 1-1.
Lindsey Wilson had back-to-back one-out hits in the bottom of the third to put runners on first and third. Sydney Fourman hit a ball to the Lynx second baseman that allowed a run to score putting the Blue Raiders up 2-1. Lindenwood-Belleville tied the game in top of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Erin Skinner.
The Blue Raiders added five runs in the bottom half of the fifth. Pilgrim singled then advanced to second on a stolen base. Pilgrim moved to third on an Alaeni Ray single and scored on a Kalli Harris RBI single increasing the lead to 3-2. Another run came into score on a wild throw by the Lynx infielder and allowed Harris to move up to second. Amber Hancock hit a three-run home run to put Lindsey Wilson up 7-2.
Pilgrim, Harris and Ray each recorded a pair of hits in the game. Hancock drove in three runs while Fourman, Harris and Pilgrim had an RBI apiece. Abby Whelan picked up the win pitching five innings giving up six hits and two earned runs with a strikeout. Lauren Lett pitched two innings of relief allowing three hits.
Game 2 – No. 8 Lindsey Wilson 2, No. 8 William Carey 10 (6 innings)
Macy Monk led off the second inning with a single and came around to score on a Harli Crow double giving the Crusaders a 1-0 lead. After a walk, a sacrifice bunt increase the William Carey (11-4) lead to 2-0. Mary Blair Odom hit a triple making it 4-0.
Harris began the Blue Raider fourth inning with a walk and advanced to third on a Hancock single. She then came around to score on a fielder's choice trimming the deficit to 4-1. Kimberly Gilbert hit an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth to put the Crusaders up 5-1.
Cassie Kooker reached first on a bunt then advanced to third on two William Carey errors on the play. Kooker scored on a Ray groundout to cut the lead to 5-2. The Crusaders added five runs in the bottom of the sixth to go up 10-2 and enforce the run rule.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Friday when they host Calumet College (Ind.) at 10 a.m. CT at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
