Softball swings its way to doubleheader sweep at Bryan

DAYTON, Tenn. -- No. 11-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball powered its way to a doubleheader sweep of host Bryan (Tenn.) today at the Bryan College Softball Field.

The Blue Raiders (19-4) scored 24 runs and pounded out 32 hits to extend their winning streak to a season-high nine games. Bryan falls to 8-22 on the season with the two losses.​

GAME 1: Lindsey Wilson 11 Bryan 2 (5 innings)

A nine-run fourth inning propelled the Blue Raiders to an 11-2, five-inning win in today's opener over Bryan.

The Lindsey Wilson offense produced six hits in the decisive inning but also took advantage of four Bryan errors.

Cassie Kooker recorded two hits in the inning as13 Blue Raiders came to the plate in the inning. Kooker was one of five Blue Raiders to finish the game with two hits as Lindsey Wilson out-hit the Lions 12-6.

Alaeni Ray Sydney Fourman, Amber Hancock, and Cassie Matlock joined Kooker with two hits in the game. Kooker, Hancock, Matlock and Samantha Luckett each drove in two runs in the win.

Annabelle Ramirez picked up the complete-game, five-inning win. She allowed two runs on six hits while striking out five to improve to 5-2 this season.

GAME 2: Lindsey Wilson 13 Bryan 11

Kooker, Lyric Houston and Kelsie Cornelius each hit home runs as the Blue Raider offense stayed hot in a 13-11 win in game two.

Lindsey Wilson scored five times in each of the first and sixth innings as the Blue Raiders posted runs in five of the seven innings in the game.

Kooker recorded a game-high four hits while Cornelius and Fourman each contributed three hits in the win. Matlock drove in a team-high three runs to finish the day with five RBIs in the two games.

While Lindsey Wilson never trailed in the game, Bryan almost matched the Blue Raiders offensive efficiency in the second game. The Lions tallied 11 runs on 19 hits while also posting runs in five of the seven innings.

Hannah Epperson (4-0) picked up the win in relief. She allowed three runs on four hits over 2-1/3 innings as one of four Lindsey Wilson pitchers to throw in the game. Ramirez came on in the seventh inning to close out the game allowing one run on three hits to secure her second save of the season.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Friday, March 23, as the Blue Raiders open Mid-South Conference play against Georgetown (Ky.) in a doubleheader at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
