Softball beats Lyon, falls to Thomas at Gulf Coast Invitational

GULF SHORES, Ala. -- No. 8 Lindsey Wilson softball split a pair of games today at the Gulf Coast Invitational played at the Gulf Shores Sportsplex.

The Blue Raiders (5-1) concluded pool play with a 7-6 win over Lyon (Ark.) before falling to Thomas (Ga.) 3-2 in the first round of bracket play.​

Game 1

Sydney Fourman provided a RBI double in the bottom of the sixth inning to break a 6-6 tie and send Lindsey Wilson to a win over Lyon. Fourman had two hits in the game and three RBIs to help the Blue Raiders win their fifth straight to open the season.

Kelsie Cornelius recorded a team-high three hits while Kalli Harris joined Fourman with two hits.

The Blue Raiders overcame deficits of 3-0 and 5-2 in the game to take a 6-5 lead with a four-run fourth inning. Fourman and Harris combined to drive in three of the four runs in the inning.

After Lyon tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth inning, Harris provided a one-out double and Fourman followed with a double of her own to chase Harris home for the lead and eventual win.

Hannah Epperson (1-0) picked up the win in relief. She allowed one unearned run on three hits over the final five innings of the game.

Game 2

Thomas battled back from a two-run deficit with runs in the third, fifth and seventh to take a 3-2 win over the Blue Raiders.

Callum Pilgrim scored the game's first run in the top of the first when she singled, stole second base and moved to third on Harris' single. Pilgrim scored on a Thomas error following the Harris hit to give Lindsey Wilson the 1-0 lead.

Pilgrim scored the Blue Raiders' second run in the third as she singled and stole second and scored on Alaeni Ray's double. Ray and Pilgrim each had two hits in the game.

Gaby Mora and Kelsey Connolly each homered to draw Thomas even heading into the seventh inning. Victoria Camina led off the inning with a single and later scored on a wild pitch to give Thomas the come-from-behind walk-off win.

Annabelle Ramirez (1-1) suffered the loss allowing three runs on six hits over her 6-1/3 innings. She struck out a career-high 10 while walking five.

Lindsey Wilson is back to the field at 9 a.m. CT on Sunday as the Blue Raiders face Avila (Mo.) in the consolation bracket.
