Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team swept a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against Cumberland (Tenn.) Wednesday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park on Senior Day.
The Blue Raiders (33-10, 13-5 MSC) took game one 5-2 and completed the sweep with a 3-2 victory in the second game. Lindsey Wilson totaled 15 hits in the two games while Cumberland (28-19, 6-14 MSC) had 11.
Game 1: No. 9 Lindsey Wilson 5, Cumberland 2
Tyra Graham began the game reaching on a single to left field and then advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt. After a groundout moved Graham to third, Brigid Antonelli gave Cumberland a 1-0 lead with an RBI single into left field. Graham hit her sixth home run of the season in the third inning to increase the Phoenix lead to 2-0.
Cassie Kooker led off the bottom of the third with a single to left-center field. After back-to-back outs, Alaeni Ray put the Blue Raiders on the board with a single into left field trimming the deficit to 2-1.
Back-to-back singles by Kooker and Callum Pilgrim in the bottom of the fifth put runners on first and second. Lyric Houston hit a sacrifice bunt to move the runners to second and third. Ray then reached on a fielder's choice that loaded the bases for Lindsey Wilson. Sydney Fourman hit an RBI groundout to tie the game 2-2.
The Blue Raiders added three runs in the sixth all with two outs and aided by a Phoenix error. Cassie Matlock led off the inning reaching first on an error by the Cumberland second baseman. Amber Hancock hit a double into deep right-center field which advanced Matlock to third. After back-to-back outs, Lindsey Wilson took a 3-2 lead on a Pilgrim RBI single. The Blue Raiders increased their lead to 5-2 on Houston two-RBI double.
Taylor Slade picked up her fourth victory of the season with the complete game allowing two runs on five hits with three strikeouts.
Game 2: No. 9 Lindsey Wilson 3, Cumberland 2
Pilgrim led off the bottom of the first with a walk then advanced to second on a stolen base. Houston then reached on a fielder's choice that advanced Pilgrim to third and Ray was walked to load the bases with nobody out. Lindsey Wilson took a 1-0 lead on a Fourman RBI groundout. The Blue Raiders increased the lead to 2-0 on a Matlock RBI-single to right-center field.
Paola Del Valle began the third inning with a single to shallow right field. After a pop out, back-to-back singles scored Del Valle to cut the Blue Raider lead to 2-1. Shae Dunn stole home on a double steal attempt to tie the game at 2-2.
Fourman hit her 10th home run of the season on a 1-0 count in the bottom of the fifth inning to put the Blue Raiders out in front 3-2. Del Valle led off the top of the seventh with a double to deep left-center field. A groundout advanced her to third with two outs when Annabelle Ramirez got the next batter to fly out to right field to end the game.
Ramirez improved to 10-6 with the complete game victory allowing two runs on six hits with a pair of strikeouts. Matlock led the way for Lindsey Wilson with two hits while Fourman drove in a game-high two runs.
The Blue Raiders are back in action on Sunday for a MSC doubleheader at Pikeville (Ky.) beginning at 1 p.m. CT.
