Box Score 2 PIKEVILLE, Ky. – The No. 9-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team swept a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against Pikeville (Ky.) Sunday at Paul Butcher Field.
The Blue Raiders (35-10, 15-5 MSC) took game one 7-3 and completed the sweep over the Bears ( 23-17, 7-11 MSC) with a 5-0 victory in game two. Lindsey Wilson outhit Pikeville 17-8 over the two games.
Game 1: No. 9 Lindsey Wilson 7 , Pikeville 3
The Blue Raiders scored four runs in the first inning all coming with two outs and aided by a Pikeville error. After back-to-back flyouts to begin the inning, Alaeni Ray singled to center field. Sydney Fourman reached on an error by the Pikeville first baseman allowing Ray to advance to third. After Kalli Harris was walked to load the bases, Cassie Matlock singled to the pitcher's mound to give Lindsey Wilson a 1-0 lead. Amber Hancock drove in a run to increase the lead to 2-0. Amy Rogers hit a two-RBI single to increase the Blue Raider lead to 4-0.
Callum Pilgrim led off the second inning with a single to center field and then advanced to third on a Lyric Houston bunt single. Ray hit a sacrifice fly to put Lindsey Wilson up 5-0. Matlock reached first on an error in the third and then advanced to second on a Hancock single. Rogers hit a sacrifice bunt that advanced the runners and Cassie Kooker hit a sacrifice fly to increase the lead to 6-0. The Blue Raiders added another run on a Pikeville error to take a 7-0 lead.
Pikeville scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh all with two outs. Back-to-back two-out singles by Hannah Absher and Jordan Gentry put runners on first and second. Lee Collier put the Bears on the board with an RBI-double. Kitty Raymond then made it 7-3 with a two-RBI single.
Taylor Slade improved to 5-2 on the season with the complete game victory allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out four. Hancock led the way for Lindsey Wilson with two hits while Rogers recorded two RBIs.
Game 2: No. 9 Lindsey Wilson 5, Pikeville 0
Pilgrim began the game reaching on a single to center field then advanced to second on a Houston single. On the same play, there was a throwing error by the Pikeville shortstop that allowed Pilgrim to score to give the Blue Raiders a 1-0 lead and allowed Houston to advance to second. Matlock hit an RBI-single to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 2-0.
Ray led off the third inning with a double to deep left field. Fourman then hit her 11th home run of the season to increase the lead to 4-0. A walk and a single to begin the top of the sixth put runners on first and second. Rogers then hit a sacrifice bunt that moved the runners to second and third. Amber Hancock scored on a Pikeville error to make it 5-0 Lindsey Wilson.
Annabelle Ramirez recorded her fourth shutout of the season and improved to 11-6 with the complete game victory. Ramirez gave up five hits with one walk while striking out five.
The two teams wrap up the series on Monday with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. CT at Paul Butcher Field.
