Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson Softball team swept a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against Kentucky Christian at Marilyn D. Sparks Park on Thursday afternoon. Sydney Fourman hit a homerun in the first inning of game number one to give her LWC's program all-time homerun record of 41 but added another homerun in game two to give her 42 for her career.
Alaeni Ray and Cassie Matlock led the Blue Raiders offensive effort on the day after both recorded three hits and four RBIs, as Ray added a homerun in game one. Callum Pilgrim added two hits and two RBIs in the wins and Lyric Houston recorded two hits and three RBIs.
Lindsey Wilson (27-6, 7-1) outhit Kentucky Christian (6-17, 1-5 MSC) 18-4 after the Blue Raiders allowed just two hits in both games.
Game 1: No. 11 Lindsey Wilson 12, Kentucky Christian 0 (5 Innings)
The Blue Raiders we able to strike first in the bottom half of the first innings when Fourman broke the LWC softball program homerun record with a two run shot hit over the left field fence. LWC increased their lead in the second inning when Matlock scored from second on a Cassie Kooker base hit.
Lindsey Wilson blew the game open in the third inning after scoring nine runs on six hits. Ray opened the inning with a solo homerun over the left field fence increasing the LWC lead to 4-0.
After two Blue Raiders reached base on a walk Matlock singled to center field scoring another LWC run. With two outs in the inning Lindsey Wilson was able to tack on seven more runs.
Fourman and Matlock were able able to score from second and first base when Knights third baseman made a wild throw to first on a Kelsie Cornelius groundball. Cornelius later scored on a Pilgrim single to center field. During the next at bat Ray doubled to center scoring Kooker and increasing the LWC lead to 9-0.
Pilgrim added another run when she advanced home on a Kentucky Christian wild pitch. Ray and Harris scored the Blue Raiders final runs of the inning when Amber Hancock singled to right field.
Both teams failed to record any hits in the final innings of the game as the Blue Raiders cruised to a 12-0 victory.
Hannah Epperson (6-0) pitch five innings for the Blue Raiders and allowed just two hits.
Game 2: No. 11 Lindsey Wilson 11, Kentucky Christian 0 (5 Innings)
The Lindsey Wilson bats stayed hot in game two, as LWC was able to score 11 more runs in the five-inning game. The Blue Raiders recorded 11 hits in the game as they added three homeruns and 11 RBIs.
With the bases loaded and two outs in the first inning, Matlock singled to center field scoring Pilgrim and Harris. During the next at bat Lyric Houston smashed a three run homerun deep over the center field fence to give the Blue Raiders a 5-0 lead after one inning.
After two scoreless innings Lindsey Wilson was able to put the game out of reach with six runs in the bottom half of the fourth inning.
Matlock and Houston opened the inning with singles and an Amy Rogers three run homerun during the next at bat increased the LWC lead to 8-0. With runners on first and second Ray singled to center field scoring Kooker and Pilgrim.
Fourman tacked on the games final run when she hit a solo homerun that crashed into the right field foul poll, increasing the Blue Raiders lead to 11-0.
The Blue Raiders defense recorded a 1-2-3 fifth inning to close out the game.
Abby Whelan (7-0) picked up the win for LWC after allowing just two hits in her five innings of work.
The Blue Raiders are back in action against Kentucky Christian tomorrow in a doubleheader starting at 10 a.m. CT at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for 11 a.m. but the forecasted inclement weather forced the schedule change.
