Softball sweeps Taylor and Union during day two of LWC Softball Classic

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson softball team completes the sweep at the LWC Softball Classic on Friday afternoon at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

The Blue Raiders (4-0) defeated Taylor (Ind.) 8-4 and Union (Ky.) 9-1 on Friday afternoon for the clean sweep in the two days of action. The Blue Raiders out-hit both Taylor (2-2) and Union (0-4) by a combined total of 20-11 including 17 RBI's total.

Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 8 | Taylor 4

The Trojans would take an early lead in the second inning with a solo homerun by Taylor Wilson to give Taylor the early lead.

The Blue Raiders would battle back in the 3rd inning with the help of a red hot Callum Pilgrim, who hitting a two-run homerun over the left field fence to give LWC the lead at 2-1. Jaydee Boursaw stretched the Blue Raiders lead to 3-1 with a solo homerun to left field later in the inning.

Taylor would battle their way back in the bottom of the third inning to tie it up with an Olivia Hostetler double to push two Trojans runs across the plate.

Lindsey Wilson broke the tie in the 5th inning with a Pilgrim walk and a Zakiya Sizemore double to put runners on second and third. Kalli Harris stepped up for LWC, hitting a ball into deep left -center field to bring home two Blue Raider runs, pushing the lead to 5-3. LWC finished the game scoring three more runs across the sixth and seventh inning.

Lindsey Wilson finished the game out-hitting Taylor 10-7 with eight RBI's. Hannah Epperson is the winning pitcher with four innings pitched and two-strikeouts.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 9 | Union 1

The Blue Raiders got off to a quick start in the first inning, with Pilgrim hitting a shallow single to left-center field. Boursaw then stepped up with a single through the left field gap to advance Pilgrim to third base. Makea Al-Kaluau then singled to drive in the first run of the game giving LWC the 1-0 lead. Samantha Luckett would extend the Blue Raiders lead with a three-run homerun, boosting the Blue Raiders lead to 4-0.

The LWC offense drove in five more runs over the course of the next four innings of play. The lone Bulldog run came off an Ariel Dailey single to the shallow outfield in the third inning.

Lindsey Wilson finished the day out-hitting Union 10-4 adding nine RBI's. Abby Whelan was the winning pitcher, going five innings with three-strikeouts.

The Blue Raiders are back in action on Monday February 18 at Noon C.T against Union in a double-header in Barbourville, Ky.
