Box Score 2 MCKENZIE, Tenn. - The Lindsey Wilson softball team scored double-digit runs in a pair of games today to sweep host Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday at Kalhden Complex.
The 13th-ranked Blue Raiders (6-0) defeated Bethel (2-2) 11-5 and 15-3. Lindsey Wilson outhit the Wildcats in the doubleheader 34-16 with an impressive 24 RBI's. Jaydee Boursaw led the Blue Raiders going 6-of-8 with three home runs and five RBI's in the two games.
Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 11 Bethel 5
Lindsey Wilson took advantage of opportunities early on in the game, striking first on the scoreboard in the second inning. After singles from Makea-Al Kaluau and Cassie Matlock, an error by the Wildcats loaded the bases. Callum Pilgrim stepped up with two outs in the inning, reaching base after another Wildcat error allowing Kaluau to score from third base.
The Blue Raiders increased their lead to 6-0 after the fourth inning. Luckett started the fourth with a solo home run to left field. A few batters later, Pilgrim drove in two more runs for LWC with a triple down the right-field line. Zakiya Sizemore and Boursaw later drove in the final two runs of the inning.
Bethel began to fight back in the bottom of the fifth inning, scoring five times to cut the Lindsey Wilson lead to one. A total of four LWC errors would help Bethel to score five runs in the fifth inning.
The Blue Raiders offense proved to be the difference, scoring five more runs in the last two innings of play.
Pilgrim led the Blue Raiders going 2-of-4 at the plate with a home run, a triple and four RBIs. Hannah Epperson picked up her third win of the season, throwing another complete game with three strikeouts.
Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 15 Bethel 3
Lindsey Wilson jumped out to an early lead in the second matchup of the day. Pilgrim kicked the Blue Raiders off with a single to center field. After a wild pitch from Amanda Perry moved Pilgrim to second, Sizemore chased her home with a single to center field. Boursaw stepped up with a two-run home run to give the Blue Raiders a 3-0 lead. Kalli Harris followed with a solo home run to left field on a 2-2 count boosting LWC's lead to 4-0.
The Wildcats would keep it close, scoring three runs in the first and second innings.
The Blue Raider shut out the Wildcats for the remainder of the game while tacking on 11 more runs of their own.
Boursaw led the Blue Raiders going 3-of-3, hitting three home runs and adding four RBIs. Pilgrim and Desiree Chang also contributed three hits in the win.
Taylor Slade picked up the win with a five-inning complete game. She allowed three runs on six hits for her second win of the season.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 3 p.m. CT on Friday, March 1, against Brescia (Ky.) at Marilyn D. Sparks Park in Columbia, Kentucky.
