Ramirez throws a perfect game; Softball sweeps Brescia on Friday evening

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson softball teams strong hitting and pitching propels them to sweep the two-game series versus visiting Brescia (Ky.) on Friday evening at Marilyn D. Sparks Park

No. 13-ranked Blue Raiders (8-0) defeated Brescia (2-6) 13-3 and 2-0. Annabelle Ramirez threw a perfect game with 13 strikeouts in the second game of the double-header. Callum Pilgrim led Lindsey Wilson hitting 4-of-7 with a grand slam and five RBI's spread across the two games.

Lindsey Wilson offense out-hit Brescia by a combined total of 21-8 for the series with another double-digit RBI performance with 15 RBI's.

Lindsey Wilson took advantage of early offense scoring opportunities in the first inning off a Samantha Luckett single bringing in Zakiya Sizemore for the run. The Blue Raiders continued their strong hitting in the second inning as they were able to load the bases with two outs in the inning. Sizemore drove a deep-double down the left field line to bring in two runs.

In the top of the third inning, Brescia began to fight back with a Justice Taylor single, which resulted in Taylor advancing on a wild-throw from Lindsey Wilson to put a runner in scoring position. After a Brescia single to second, to advance Taylor, a sacrifice-fly drove in the first run for the Bearcats.

Lindsey Wilson offense proved to be the difference maker as the Blue Raiders would drive in 10 more runs in the last three innings of play, including a Pilgrim grand-slam to end the game in the bottom of the sixth inning, ending the game an inning early.

Pilgrim led LWC in the first game going 3-of-5 with grand-slam, a double and five RBI's. Abby Whelan picked up her second win of the season with 5.1 innings as she recorded one strikeout.

Strong pitching proved to be the difference for Lindsey Wilson in game two. In her season debut, Annabelle Ramirez retired 13-of-21 batters to earn herself a perfect game no-hitter.

Jaydee Boursaw put the only runs on the board in the second game with a moon-shot two-run home run to center field to give LWC a 2-0 lead.

Ramirez picked up her first win of the season. The sophomore from Louisville, Kentucky records the first perfect game since Lyndsey Barden accomplished the feat on April 12th, 2015 against Shawnee State (Ohio.).

Boursaw led the offense going 1-of-2 with a home run and two RBI's.

The Lindsey Wilson softball team is back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT against Huntington (Ind.) in a doubleheader matchup at Marilyn D. Spark Park.
