Offensive Production sends Softball to a doubleheader sweep of Pikeville

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Eighth-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball matched its Friday production with another doubleheader sweep of visiting Pikeville (Ky.) today to win all four games in the weekend series at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

Much like Friday, the Blue Raiders (23-1, 8-0 in the Mid-South Conference) used the formula of big offensive innings and strong pitching to run their winning streak to 10 straight.

The Lindsey Wilson offense posted double-digit hits in both games while Taylor Slade and Abby Whelan held the Bears (17-11, 2-4) in check in wins of 7-1 and 11-3, the latter coming in five innings.

GAME 1: Lindsey Wilson 7 - Pikeville 1

Callum Pilgrim went 4-for-4 with a homer, three runs, and two RBIs to lift the Blue Raiders to the 7-1 win. Slade allowed just one run on two hits in her six innings to run her record to a perfect 6-0 on the season in the win.

Lindsey Wilson scored all of its runs in the first three innings, including posting a pair of crooked numbers.

The Blue Raiders took advantage of a pair of Pikeville errors in the first inning, scoring twice to take the early lead. Jaydee Boursaw drove home the third Lindsey Wilson run in the second inning, chasing home Pilgrim for the 3-0 lead.

Lindsey Wilson broke the game open in the third inning as Makea-Al Kaluau hit her eighth home run of the season. The two-run homer extended the lead to 5-0. Pilgrim followed later in the inning with a two-run home run of her own -- her seventh of the season -- to give the Blue Raiders the 7-0 lead.

Pikeville scored a late run in the 7-1 Lindsey Wilson win.

GAME 2: Lindsey Wilson 11 - Pikeville 3

Lindsey Wilson scored in each of the four innings it hit en route to the 11-3 victory.

Whelan was the beneficiary of the big offensive game, picking up her third win of the season in as many decisions. She finished the game allowing three runs while scattering six hits and striking out three Pikeville batters.

Lyric Houston and Cassie Matlock each provided RBI hits in the first inning to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 lead. It was the first of three straight innings the Blue Raiders scored twice in an inning. Matlock finished 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI in the game.

Lindsey Wilson took advantage of a Pikeville error -- one of three errors in the game -- in the second inning scoring two more runs to take a 4-0 lead.

After the Bears scored just their second run of the four-game series in the top of the third, Kaluau drove home Matlock and Kalli Harris -- who led off the inning with back-to-back hits -- with a two-run double. Kaluau finished 2-for-3 at the plate with three RBIs. She leads the team with 31 RBIs this season.

The Blue Raiders -- who scored in seven of the 10 innings they hit in on the day -- had its best offensive production in the fourth. Lindsey Wilson, leading 6-2, scored five times to set up the run-rule win.

Harris drove in two runs, Kaluau one and Lauren Lett plated Lindsey Wilson's final two runs to push the Blue Raiders to an 11-2 lead. Harris completed the game with a 2-for-3 game, including scoring twice and the two RBIs.

Pikeville managed one more run in the top of the fifth, but Breanna Clark secured the final three outs for the 11-3, five-inning win.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 1 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 2, as the Blue Raiders travel to Brescia (Ky.) in Owensboro, Ky.
