Softball sweeps Kentucky Christian, hits the 40-win plateau

GRAYSON, Ky. -- No. 6-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball swept a road doubleheader today from Mid-South Conference foe Kentucky Christian.

The Blue Raiders (40-2, 19-1 in the MSC) won the opener 12-4 in five innings and closed the doubleheader with a 13-3 win, also in five innings. The wins give Lindsey Wilson 40 wins this season. It marks the ninth time in the program's history the Blue Raiders have won 40 games in a season.

Game 1: Lindsey Wilson 12 Kentucky Christian 4

Zakiya Sizemore and Cassie Matlock -- the reigning MSC Player of the Week -- each recorded three hits while Abby Whelan hurled a complete game in the 12-4 win.

Sizemore hit her third home run of the season while driving in four runs. Makea-Al Kaluau hit her conference-leading 14th homer of the year as Lindsey Wilson pounded out 11 hits in the win. Kaluau also finished with two runs and two RBIs in the game.

Whelan improved to 5-1 on the season, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out one KCU batter in her five innings of work.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 13 Kentucky Christian 3

Callum Pilgrim led the Blue Raider offense and Kaylee Covey went the distance in a 13-3 win in the nightcap.

Pilgrim went 3-for-4 at the plate with three runs and four RBIs. She hit her 10th home run of the season -- a personal single-season best. Jaydee Boursaw added a pair of hits while Kalli Harris hit her fourth home run of the season to help Lindsey Wilson score double-digit runs for the 12th time this season.

Covey picked up her second win of the season, allowing two earned runs on three hits while striking out three in five innings.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT on Tuesday, April 23, as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (Ky.) in Georgetown, Ky.
