Baseball set to close the season at Cumberlands

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson baseball closes out its regular season with a Mid-South Conference doubleheader against No. 5-ranked Cumberlands (Ky.) in Williamsburg, Ky. on Saturday.

Saturday's doubleheader action is slated for a noon CT start from Doyle Buhl Stadium.

The Blue Raiders (8-32, 2-13 MSC) are hitting the road after closing out their home schedule with a dramatic 9-8 victory over Brescia (Ky.) on Tuesday evening.

LWC had to fight back from an 8-2 deficit to claim the win with a walk-off RBI single from Manny Chavarria.

Steven Calderon leads the team with a .306 batting average while leading in a host of other categories. Calderon takes charge with nine doubles, seven homers, and has knocked in 29 RBI's. Calderon also shares the lead in hits with Austin Rayno and Tyler Maskill, connecting for 41 hits each. Rayno and Calderon also share the lead with 27 runs scored this season.

Francisco Arias has picked up four of the eight Blue Raider wins this season, pitching for 19.1 innings while holding a 3.26 ERA during his time on the mound. Ethan Escue continues to hold the most time on the bump with 44.1 innings pitched while recording a 7.11 ERA during that time.

Cumberlands (41-5, 10-2 MSC) are returning home after defeating Midway (Ky.) 8-3 on Tuesday. The Patriots are hosting Cumberland (Tenn.) for a solo matchup on Friday in makeup for canceled games from last weekend before hosting the Blue Raiders on Saturday.

The Patriots are led by Jose Rojas who has managed a .426 batting average. Bryan Leef leads the squad with 53 hits as well as 53 RBI's.

As a team, Cumberlands have outscored their opponents 423-150 during the season. The Patriots also rank first in the NAIA with a .615 slugging percentage and are third with a .341 team batting average.

From the bump, Zach Hurley leads the pitching corps with a 1.90 ERA and has thrown for a team-high 52.0 innings. Hurley has picked up seven wins and has only dropped one game this season. Hurley has struck out batters 56 times and as given up only 14 runs.

The Patriots have won the last four matchups against the Blue Raiders with the latest being a 3-0 win back on Mar. 23, 2018.
