BIG INNINGS, RAMIREZ HELPS SOFTBALL BEAT MOBILE 9-1 AT NAIA WORLD SERIES

Box Score

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Lindsey Wilson softball scored an NAIA World Series-high nine runs today to beat Mobile (Ala.) 9-1 in an elimination game at Killian Softball Stadium.

Annabelle Ramirez was equally impressive in the circle today, going the distance to eliminate the seventh-seeded Rams (53-13).

The fifth-seeded Blue Raiders advance to 2 p.m. CT on Monday to take on top-seeded Science & Arts of Oklahoma in another elimination game. USAO fell to Southern Oregon -- the same team to send Lindsey Wilson into the consolation bracket -- today 4-0 in the winner's bracket semifinals.

Ramirez bounced back from a rugged start. The Rams scored the first earned run of the World Series against Blue Raider pitching to take an early 1-0 lead. Ramirez limited the damage striking out the seventh batter she faced in the inning with bases loaded.

Mobile's Hope Cain (25-4) stymied the Blue Raider bats in the first two innings, but Lindsey Wilson exploded for four runs in the third to take a 4-1 lead.

Desiree Chang jump-started the big inning with a single up the middle. She finished the game 3-for-4 with a pair of RBIs.

Callum Pilgrim reached base after being hit by a pitch and Zakiya Sizemore reached on the first of three Mobile errors in the game to load the bases.

Cassie Matlock -- who is leading the tournament with a .667 batting average and four RBIs -- doubled home two runs to give the Blue Raiders their first lead of the day. Jaydee Boursaw followed with an RBI ground out and Kalli Harris completed the big inning with an RBI single to extend the lead to 4-1.

Matlock, Boursaw, and Harris combined for five hits and four RBIs today in the heart of the Lindsey Wilson lineup.

With the lead in hand, Ramirez was dominant. After facing seven batters in the first inning, she faced just one over the minimum in the last six innings -- surrendering one walk and one base hit. Ramirez -- who improves to 19-2 on the season -- retired 13 straight batters from the second inning until the sixth.

Lindsey Wilson offense continued to give itself chances but was turned away. Despite the nine runs, the Blue Raiders stranded eight baserunners in the game.

Lindsey Wilson broke through in a big way in the top of the seventh with its best inning of the World Series, scoring five times to take a 9-1 lead.

The Blue Raiders benefitted from a pair of Mobile errors while producing five hits in the frame.

Lauren Lett and Boursaw each singled and Harris walked to load the bases for Makea-Al Kaluau. After a seven-pitch battle, Kaluau produced her team-leading 59th RBI of the season with an RBI single to extend the lead to 5-1.

An error provided another Lindsey Wilson run ahead of Amber Hancock's RBI single to give the Blue Raiders the 7-1 lead. Chang capped the scoring in the inning with a two-run single down the right-field line to give Lindsey Wilson the 9-1 advantage.

Ramirez set the Mobile side down in order in the bottom of the seventh to help Lindsey Wilson win its fifth straight elimination game. Ramirez finished the game allowing one run on three hits while striking out 10 in the win.

Lindsey Wilson and USAO kick off Monday's play in the first of two elimination games at Killian Softball Stadium. Six teams remain in the double-elimination tournament following today's action. First pitch on Monday is set for 2 p.m. CT.
