SOFTBALL WINS 2019 MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

Box Score

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The No. 5-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team won the 2019 Mid-South Conference Tournament Championship this afternoon as they defeated Campbellsville (Ky.) 3-2 at Michael O. Buchanon Park. The Blue Raiders went a perfect 4-0 at the championship.

The victory is the Blue Raiders first tournament title since 2015 and the programs eighth all-time. The Blue Raiders move to 46-2 on the season as they have now won 11 straight contests.

The game was a defensive battle as LWC managed to slightly outhit the Tigers 6-4.

Annabelle Ramirez (14-0) made her second appearance of the tournament in the circle against Campbellsville as she pitched a complete game, issuing five walks and striking out three. Jaydee Boursaw led the Lindsey Wilson offense tallying two hits while Cassie Matlock drove in a pair of runs.

Lindsey Wilson struck first in the home half of the first inning. Zakiya Sizemore would reach base on a one-out walk. With two outs in the inning, Boursaw hit a single that advanced Sizemore to second. A walk then loaded the bases as Makea-Al Kaluau gave the Blue Raiders the first run of the game with an RBI-single.

Campbellsville threatened to score in the second as they were able to load the bases with the help of three walks by LWC but the threat was adverted when Ramirez struck out the final batter of the inning.

The Blue Raiders tacked on two more runs to their lead in the bottom of the second, doing so with two outs in the inning. Desiree Chang reached base on a single to shallow right-center field as Sizemore then singled to center to put runners on the corners. Matlock drove in both LWC base runners with a single to left field to increase the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-0. The two RBI single would prove to be the decisive hit and runs in the game.

After a flyout for Campbellsville to begin the top of the third, Mia Aldridge reached on a walk and Riley Hurst hit a double. Ryley Whitney then hit a bases-clearing double to trim the Lindsey Wilson lead to 3-2.

With runners on first and second in the top of the fifth, the Tigers Tori Humphrey hit a single to right field but Matlock came up throwing from her position in the outfield and threw out the potential game-tying run at the plate to end the inning

The Blue Raiders failed to produce any offense after the second inning, recording all six hit across the first two innings, but they had pushed enough runs across the plate to take the game 3-2.

Lindsey Wilson softball sweeps the MSC Championships as they won the regular season crown earlier this season after finishing with a 21-1 record in conference play.

The Blue Raiders earn the Mid-South Conference's automatic bid into the NAIA National Tournament which begins next week on May 13-15. The opening round will be hosted at Marilyn D. Sparks Park by the Blue Raiders as the opening round pairings are scheduled to be released tomorrow afternoon by the national office.
