Ace Pitching and Strong Hitting Steal the Show as Softball Splits with Freed-Hardeman

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

COLUMBIA, Ky. - Lindsey Wilson and Freed-Hardeman pulled out all the stops on the first day of their conference series, and almost fittingly, the afternoon concluded with a split.

In a battle between two of the NAIA's top 15 teams, pitching became the name the game early on. However, the tone swiftly changed to offense late in the day as the Blue Raiders captured the first game 4-0 before the Lions garnered a 10-8 game two victory.

Game 1

Lindsey Wilson 4 | Freed-Hardeman 0

For the second time this season, Annabelle Ramirez fired a complete-game no-hitter, and on a day where she and seven other Blue Raider seniors were recognized prior to the start of the game.

The Mid-South's leader in wins and total strikeouts recorded her twentieth triumph behind a 15-strikeout effort, her eleventh double-digit strikeout performance of the season.

While Ramirez was dealing for Lindsey Wilson, Chloe Winters was putting in the work for the Lions, firing three straight perfect innings to rival the Blue Raiders' starter.

The first hit of the game from either side came in the bottom of the fourth of an Alexis Garayzar single.

In the following inning, the Lions tacked on their first, and only baserunners of the game courtesy of a walk and an infield error, but the ace pitching of Ramirez kept the opposition off the board.

Looking to build off Garayzar's base hit, the Blue Raider bats pounced for three more in the fifth, eventually leading to the game's deciding runs.

Lexi Isable led off the frame with a double to deep right-center, followed by a hard-fought walk drawn by Brianna Griffiths. Then, on a 2-0 count, Lyric Houston skyed a shot into left that wound up getting misplayed by the Lions' outfielder, allowing Isable to score from third.

The next at-bat, Sam Sims laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases for Garayzar. The Blue Raiders' catcher drew another walk to score Griffiths, setting up Makea-Al Kaluau.

On the second pitch she saw, Kaluau floated a single into shallow left, plating Houston and Sims to put Lindsey Wilson ahead 4-0.

Ramirez (20-2) would go on to retire four of the last six batters she faced on strikes to secure the no-hit bid.

Game 2

Lindsey Wilson 8 | Freed-Hardeman 10

For the second edition of Sunday's action, Freed-Hardeman turned to their ace in Brittany Adair.

Boasting a conference-best earned run average entering the day, Adair retired 11 of Lindsey Wilson's first 12 outs on strikes.

Despite the strong showing in the circle, the Lindsey Wilson bats did draw a season-high seven walks and five earned runs off Adair.

The Blue Raiders tallied the first runs of the game, produced from a Sims double to the deepest part of Sparks Park, scoring two.

The Lions answered right back in the top of the third, highlighted by a two-run home run from Cassie Hayes to push the visitors in front 3-2.

Freed-Hardeman added a four-piece in the fourth to open a 7-2 advantage before Lindsey Wilson began to mount its comeback attempt.

Two two-run doubles from Sims and Kaluau helped the home side crawl back into contention, eventually sneaking ahead 8-7.

A two-run dinger from Kennedy Harris in the following inning restored the lead for the Lions, and they would ultimately hang on to garner the split.

On the day, the duo of Sims and Kaluau corralled four RBIs each, including three doubles from Sims in the second game.

Winters picked up the win for Freed-Hardeman in game two after coming on in relief of Adair in the fifth inning.

Lindsey Wilson and Freed-Hardeman will conclude their series on Monday at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. First-pitch is slated for 12 p.m. CT.
