The team split a Mid-South Conference doubleheader Friday afternoon against Martin Methodist (Tenn.). The Blue Raiders now hold a 29-1 overall record, including a 21-1 mark in the MSC. The RedHawks now sit at 8-16 overall with a 6-14 record in the MSC.
Game one: Lindsey Wilson - 0 | Martin Methodist - 1
One hit and one run was all the RedHawks needed to corral the upset in game one. The lone run was scored when MMC's Courtney McFarlen earned a walk with the bases loaded in the sixth inning.
Despite the scoreless showing, the Blue Raiders produced nine hits from the plate. Carissa Summers led the team while matching her career-high of three hits. Alexis Garayzar was right behind her with two hits of her own.
Annabelle Ramirez earned her first loss of the season from the circle. However, Ramirez struck out 10 batters in five full innings of work while allowing just one hit, one earned run, and three walks. Breanna Clark pitched one full inning to finish the game.
Game two (eight innings): Lindsey Wilson - 5 | Martin Methodist - 2
Zero runs were produced by either team in game two until the fifth inning, which saw Lindsey Wilson take the first lead. On a Clark single, a bobbled ball from the left fielder brought Summers across home plate for the first run of the contest.
However, the lead was short-lived for Lindsey Wilson, who gave up two runs off a pair of back-to-back RBI singles in the bottom half of the fifth.
Despite trailing, the Blue Raiders answered the call by notching another run in the sixth to tie things up. Summers put a ball in play, which ended in Sam Sims being forced out at third base. Despite the out, this allowed Mikayla Marquez to cross home plate safely. Summers would reach first on a fielder's choice.
Martin Methodist almost won the game in the seventh, but a well executed play at the plate from the catcher Garayzar and pitcher Ramirez stopped the winning run at third base from crossing with two outs in the inning.
The play at the plate proved to be the difference maker, with the Blue Raiders garnering three runs in the eighth inning to secure the win. Summers singled in the inning, scoring Makea-Al Kaluau. On the next at-bat, Sims scored on a stolen base, which was followed up by Summers scoring on a wild throw a little bit later in the inning.
Summers and Brianna Griffiths each collected two hits to lead LWC, with Summers also adding two RBIs to her total. Clark earned the start from the circle, going 4-1/3 innings of work while allowing six hits and two earned runs while striking out two. Ramirez finished the game with 3-1/3 innings of action, allowing just one hit and one walk alongside three strikeouts.
Play between No. 2 Lindsey Wilson and Martin Methodist will continue tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at noon CT.
