SOFTBALL SECURES 7-2 VICTORY OVER FREED-HARDEMAN IN MID-SOUTH CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

Box Score

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The No. 2-seeded Lindsey Wilson softball team took down No. 3-seeded Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) in the Mid-South Conference Tournament on Thursday evening at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

With the win, Lindsey Wilson will advance on in the winner's bracket to battle No. 1-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) tomorrow at Sparks Park beginning at 4 p.m. CT.

The Blue Raiders rode behind the strong pitching of Annabelle Ramirez, who went seven complete innings of work where she allowed just two hits alongside recording nine strikeouts. In the second inning of the game, she moved her way into sole possession of third all-time for strikeouts in a career. She improves her pitching record to 25-4 on the year.

On offense, Makea-Al Kaluau notched a team-high three hits while also recording two RBIs. Lexi Isable led the RBI effort with her four alongside scoring three runs.

The game moved on as a stalemate until the bottom half of the third inning, where the Blue Raiders crossed a run on a double error (dropped catch and misplayed throw) from the Lions.

Despite the deficit, Freed-Hardeman added the equalizer with a solo home run in the fifth.

The newly tied game did not last long as Kaluau crushed a two-run home run over the wall in the bottom half of the fifth. The home run moved her into sole possession of third all-time in program history with 39 for her career.

The Lions, who refused to give up, cut into the deficit an inning later with an RBI single.

It was the bottom half of the sixth that proved to be the difference-maker in the contest. With the bases loaded and two outs, Isable smashed a grand slam over the wall to extend the lead and eventually help secure the 7-2 victory.

Live video of the game tomorrow will be available on the Lindsey Wilson Sports Network, while live stats will be available through DakStats.
