Archery Takes Second at USA Archery 3D National Championship

FOLEY, Ala. – The Lindsey Wilson archery team tied the program's best-ever finish at the USA Archery 3D National Championship this weekend taking home second place after seeing the Blue Raiders bring home four national titles. Lindsey Wilson also finished as runners-up at the event during the 2020 season.

The Blue Raiders competed against 32 other programs as 396 archers tightened their bows at the national championship event.

Baylee Deer and Austin Taylor each brought home two national titles. The pair teamed up to win the mixed compound event as Deer won the women's compound and Taylor teamed up to win the men's team compound event.

Deer claimed an individual title as she sat atop the podium in the women's compound. She won the event by 11 points, finishing with 466 points. She scored 224 points in the first round and 210 in the second as her 23 12s were the most in the field.

Taylor and Deer then joined forced to produce 888 points in the mixed compound to take first place by 11 points.

Taylor, Bronson Ormes, and Seth Pipes then claimed the men's compound title after qualifying in fourth place. The trio went 3-0 through the bracket to bring home gold. In the finals against a pairing from Texas A&M LWC won 98-85.

The Blue Raider pairing of Taylor Bell, Lyle Uhrich, and Gus Burtts brought home Lindsey Wilson's final title during the men's bowhunter. The trio also produced a 3-0 record after qualifying in second place. In the finals, LWC won all three ends to outscore Kentucky Christian 86-74.

T Sanchez turned in a second-place finish in the men's recurve with 456 points and 21 12s. Britney McCarthy managed a second-place finish in the women's barebow with 398 points and four 12s. She was just three points off of first place. Taylor added another second-place individual finish during the men's compound after racking up 486 points and 28 12s. He was just six points off first place.

Anna Krampe cracked the podium with a third-place finish during the women's bowhunter as she produced 429 points and 11 12s. She finished tied with second place on points but fell to third on the tiebreaker.

Burtts finished fourth in the men's bowhunter, Bell took fifth in the same event and Trinity Smith took eighth during the women's barebow.

Britney McCarthy and Jacob Cook took second place in the mixed barebow event as they finished tied for the lead with 695 points with a pairing from Texas A&M but fell to second on the tiebreaker. Burtts and Krampe managed a runner-up finish in the mixed bowhunter event with 830 points.

Sanchez and Audrey Routte rounded out the mixed team competition in fifth place with 791 points.

Britney McCarthy, Sarah McCarthy, and Smith finished in second place in the women's barebow after qualifying in first place. The trio received a quarterfinal bye before winning the semifinals 74-47 over Liberty (Va.). The pair fell in the final to Pikeville (Ky.) 62-58.

Nathan Bush, Jacob Cook, and Sean Neal took third place in the men's barebow. After qualifying in fourth, the trio won their quarterfinal match before falling in the semifinals. The pair then won their third-place match with a 79-75 result over Cumberlands (Ky.).

Krampe, Jessica Heady, and Madeline McGuire qualified third in the women's bowhunter and held that position to finish third in the event. The pair won their opening match before falling in the semifinals. They closed out the event with a 86-74 win over Mississippi College.

Sanchez, Christian Blair, and Hunter Reading finished fourth in the men's recurve as Madison Loveless, Layla Blevins, and Routte took fourth on the women's side.

Lindsey Wilson archery now turns its attention to the indoor archery season later this month.
