Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team split their doubleheader with Bryan (Tenn.) on Saturday afternoon.
Lindsey Wilson dropped the opening game in extra innings on a 2-1 result while claiming the second game with a 6-1 win. Lindsey Wilson hit just .279 across the two games with 16 hits, as nine came during the second contest. Bryan finished the series with a .255 batting average and 14 hits.
Makea-Al Kaluau, Mikayla Marquez and Kylie Brown finished the games with three hits and one RBI as Sadie Werner picked up the win in the center circle.
GAME 1: Lindsey Wilson 1, Bryan 2
Lindsey Wilson and Bryan played six scoreless innings to open the doubleheader as the Blue Raiders managed just three hits over the span, recording their first in the fourth.
The Blue Raiders struck first when Desiree Chang walked with two outs in the inning. Marquez came on as a pinch-runner and successfully stole second base. With just their fourth runner in scoring position in the game, Kaluau blasted an RBI double.
Bryan responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run of their own to force extras. A one-out double and a single during the next at-bat leveled the score before Emily Boin retired two straight batters to get out of the jam.
With the international run rule in effect, the Blue Raiders were retired in order to open extra innings. A fielder's choice pushed Hood to third base for Bryan before a Nagelhout single scored the winning run.
GAME 2: Lindsey Wilson 6, Bryan 1
Lindsey Wilson struck first in game two to jump out to a 1-0 lead that lasted until the bottom of the fourth inning. Marquez led off with a single and stole her second bag of the day. Brown then singled on a play that scored Marquez with two outs.
A leadoff double from Bryans Galvan led to the Lions first run of the afternoon when LaRocque produced an RBI single. It was the only run of the game for the Lions after recording just three more hits.
The Blue Raiders quickly regained the lead in the fifth. A leadoff single by Brooklynn Ott kicked things off as Marquez produced a triple to increase the LWC advantage to 2-1. Lindsey Wilson tacked on two runs in the sixth inning. Chang led off with a triple and later scored on an error that allowed Brown to reach first. An Elizabeth Funk single put runners on the corners before Brown scored on a rundown that resulted in Funk being tagged out.
Lindsey Wilson tacked on two more runs in the seventh off of an inning high four hits to easily secure the win. Sadie Werner picked up the win in the center circle.
The Blue Raiders return to Columbia for their home opener at Sparks Park on Thursday when they take on Ohio Christian at 1 p.m. CT.
