Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 23-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball team rolled to two wins over Midway (Ky.) on Sunday afternoon at Sparks Park. The Blue Raiders rolled in game one to a 7-2 result before winning on a Mikayla Marquez walk-off sac fly in game two.
Marquez and Makea-Al Kaluau finished the afternoon with four hits and two RBIs as Desiree Chang added three hits and four Blue Raiders had two. Emily Boin picked up the win during game one while Sadie Werner came on in relief in game two to pick up her win.
Game 2: LWC 7, MU 6
Lindsey Wilson won thrillingly in game two, needing a Marquez walk-off sac fly that scored Brianna Griffiths. The run broke a 6-6 tie and pushed the Blue Raiders to victory. LWC led by two runs heading into the seventh but Midway scored two runs in the top of the seventh to level the score.
The Blue Raiders pushed one run home in the first inning to take the early lead but Midway got hot at the plate over the next two innings. The Eagles racked up seven hits and four runs to take a three-run lead which they maintained until the fifth inning.
Lindsey Wilson cut the Midway lead to just one run as they poured two runs home in the bottom half of the inning. Kaluau led off with a solo home run, her first of the season as Garza later scored after walking on a Chang single.
Lindsey Wilson took a 6-4 lead into the seventh inning when they scored three runs on three hits in the sixth. Marquez, Brooklynn Ott, and Alexis Garayzar each produced hits in the inning.
Werner came in in relief, pitching 4-1/3 innings with three strikeouts and just two hits.
Game 1: LWC 7, MU 2
Lindsey Wilson pushed two runs home split across the first two innings. Marquez led off with a single to centerfield before a Kaluau advanced her to third. A Desire Chang groundout scored Marquez for the first run.
Elizabeth Funk led off the second inning with a single before Marquez later singled to centerfield, giving LWC a 2-0 lead. Following five scoreless innings from Midway they finally got on the board in the sixth inning with one run on one hit.
Lindsey Wilson responded in the bottom half of the inning, pushing home five runs to put the contest out of reach. Sam Sims produced an RBI double that scored Jordan Balz who was pinch-running for Funk who reached base earlier in the inning on a walk.
Sims then advanced to third on a wild pitch and would score later in the inning when Kaluau walked and stretched the play to second after being caught in a run down. The heads-up play by Kaluau gave time for Sims to take home base.
Desiree Chang then reached base on an error that allowed Kaluau to score after advancing to third on a wild pitch. Kylie Brown then managed a two-run home run to close out Lindsey Wilson's scoring in the inning.
Leading 7-1, Lindsey Wilson allowed one final Midway run in the seventh inning as the Blue Raiders claimed the contest 7-2.
Boin pitched five inning and retired nine batters while allowing just three hits.
Lindsey Wilson returns to the field on March 2 when they welcome Mid-South Conference member Cumberlands to Sparks Park.
