Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team rolled to two wins over Campbellsville (Ky.) on Friday afternoon at Spark Park. Lindsey Wilson took the first fame 12-4 in six innings before taking the nightcap 7-5.
GAME 1: LWC 12, CU 4 (6 Innings)
Campbellsville scored one run in the first and third inning to take an early lead. Lindsey Wilson bounced back in the bottom half of the third inning, scoring two runs on two hits to level the score.
Brianna Griffiths and Mikayla Marquez each managed singles in the inning before Makea-Al Kaluau was hit by a pitch to load the bases. With two outs in the inning, Kylie Brown was hit by a pitch and Alexis Garayzar walked to push two runs home.
The Tigers quickly regained the lead in the fourth, scoring another run on their second solo home run of the contest.
Lindsey Wilson exploded in the bottom half of the inning, scoring seven runs on six hits to take a 9-3 lead. Zakiya Sizemore, Desiree Chang, and Marquez all produced doubles as Griffiths, Brown, and Sam Sims all singled. Five Blue Raiders recorded RBIs in the inning as Chang picked up two on her double in the middle of the inning.
Campbellsville added their final run in the game on their third home run of the contest to trim the LWC lead to 9-4 after the fifth inning.
Lindsey Wilson won on a run-rule in the sixth inning after two home runs propelled the Blue Raiders to the win. Garayzar led off the inning with a solo blast. Sam Sims then singled before Ellie Derrick produced a two-run shot deep over the left-center field fence.
Emily Boin pitched all six innings for LWC, striking out 11 to pick up her fifth win of the season.
GAME 2: LWC 7, CU 4
Lindsey Wilson rolled in the opening of the second contest, scoring seven runs across the first three innings to a 7-1 lead.
Marquez led off with a double to center field and later advanced to third on a wild pitch. Chang walked to put runners on the corners when Brown blasted an RBI double to straightaway center field. Derrick managed a two-out, two-RBI single to push home Brown and Chang.
With two outs in the second, Marquez reached base on an error before Kaluau singled to left field. Kaluau later stole second base, allowing Marquez to take off for home for another LWC score.
Campbellsville got on the board with a solo home run in the third inning.
Lindsey Wilson scored their final runs on the game in the third inning. The Blue Raiders pushed home three runs on two hits as Chang produced two RBIs and Marquez added the other.
Campbellsville added one run in the fourth, two in the fifth, and one in the seventh, but the Blue Raiders had done enough to pull off the doubleheader sweep with a 7-2 result.
Sadie Werner picked up the win for LWC in the center circle marking the sixth time this season she has worked her way to a win.
The Tigers outhit the Blue Raiders 12-8 for the contest.
Lindsey Wilson's next contest with Brescia on Monday has been postponed with no makeup date scheduled at this time. The Blue Raiders will return to play on March 18-19 when they travel to Portsmouth, Ohio to take on Shawnee State.
