Box Score 2 PORTSMOUTH, Ohio. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team went on the road this afternoon to claim two wins over Mid-South Conference member Shawnee State (Ohio).
Lindsey Wilson claimed the first game 7-2 before picking up an 8-1 win in game two. For the day LWC outhit the Bears slightly at 17-16 but made use of timely hitting and Shawnee State errors to easily claim two wins.
GAME 1: LWC 7, SSU 2
Lindsey Wilson got off to a slow start, with Shawnee State scoring a run in the first inning to hold a one-run lead through three innings of play. For the contest, Shawnee State outhit Lindsey Wilson 8-7 but the Blue Raiders were opportunistic scorers late in the action to pick up the win.
The Blue Raiders took the lead with a two-run fourth inning. LWC loaded the bases in the inning when Desiree Chang, Kylie Brown, and Alexis Garayzar all reached base consecutively. Sam Sims drove in two runs, in Chang and Brown with a single to left field.
Shawnee State leveled the score in the bottom half of the inning with two hits.
Lindsey Wilson broke the game wide open in the fifth inning with four more runs to take a 6-2 lead. Zakiya Sizemore led off with a double to right-center field before scoring on a Mikayla Marquez RBI single through the hole at shortstop before advancing to second on the throw home.
Makea-Al Kaluau followed suit with an RBI single to short that scored Marquez before advancing to second the same way. Chang then came to the plate and produced an RBI single to put runners on the corners with no outs. Kaluau and Chang tacked on two more runs in the inning after the pair were each able to steal home plate from third base throughout the inning.
Sizemore drove in the final run of the game that allowed Jordan Balz to score, giving the Blue Raiders a 7-2 victory.
Emily Boin went all seven innings in the center circle to pick up the win. She struck out 10 with just one walk while allowing eight hits.
GAME 2: LWC 8, SSU 1
Lindsey Wilson rolled in game two, opening the contest with a three-run first inning. The Blue Raiders made use of two Shawnee State errors and a grand slam off the bat of Lexi Isable to quickly take a 4-0 lead.
Shawnee State pushed home their only run of the contest in the second inning, trimming the LWC lead to just three.
Lindsey Wilson tacked on a fifth run in the fifth inning. Brianna Griffiths produced an RBI that scored Isable who reached base earlier in the inning on a walk. The Blue Raiders added two more runs in the sixth inning on three hits. Marquez opened with a double to left field before Kaluau managed a two-run home run.
The Blue Raiders loaded the bases in the final inning but were only able to push one run home off a Brown single that scored Griffiths. Griffiths recorded LWC's second hit of the inning with a leadoff single.
Olivia Franceshi picked up the win after five innings of work. She struck out one batter along the way while allowing seven hits and just one run.
Lindsey Wilson closes out the series tomorrow morning with a doubleheader beginning at 9 a.m. CT.
