NEW ALBANY, Ind. – No. 12-ranked Lindsey Wilson softball downed IU Southeast (Ind.) twice on Monday afternoon claiming both games of the doubleheader after outscoring the Grenadiers (9-16) 23-9 on the day with a five-inning run-rule win in game one and a 8-4 win in game two to close the series.

GAME 1: LWC 15, IU SOUTHEAST 5

Lindsey Wilson was an offensive force in the opening game of the doubleheader as the team put up 15 runs on 14 hits with three errors while the Grenadiers only managed five runs on six hits with an error in response. Lindsey Wilson opened the scoring after Kylie Brown was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that allowed Mikayla Marquez to walk in. Alexis Garayzar followed up with a two-RBI single that scored both Desiree Chang and Makea-Al Kaluau.

Zakiya Sizemore kept the runs coming as she produced an RBI single before Marquez made it 7-0 with a three-RBI double to left center field to cap off the first inning.

Ellie Derrick added another run in the second after she made it home from a wild pitch. After a rough opening inning, the hosts got themselves on the board as two runs scored after they took advantage of an error from the Blue Raiders.

In the third inning, Chang delivered a 2 RBI single to score two more runs before Marquez grounded out to score Sam Sims in the fourth. The Grenadiers had their best inning in the bottom of the fourth as a couple of RBI doubles and a sacrifice fly scored three runs for the hosts to make it 11-5.

The Blue Raiders shut down the contest in the fifth as a two-RBI double from Garayzar, an RBI ground out from Jordan Balz and an RBI single from Kendall Dailey put four more runs on the board, allowing the visitors to finish the game with the run rule after the fifth inning.

Sadie Werner (8-3) got the start in the center circle where she retired two of 11 batters across 2-1/3 innings pitched. Both Olivia Franceschi and Kaylee Covey came on in relief, pitching 1-1/3 and one inning(s) respectively.

Both Marquez and Garayzar racked up four RBIs in the game as 11 different Blue Raiders each had at least one hit in the game. In addition to the hits, six Blue Raiders came across home plate twice in the match with nine players earning at least one run.

GAME 2: LWC 7, IU SOUTHEAST 0

Lindsey Wilson opened game two scoring in the first inning with two RBI doubles from Derrick and Brown to take a 2-0 advantage.

After a scoreless second inning, Derrick delivered a two-RBI home run in the third to make it 4-0. The home run was the fifth of the season for Derrick.

Leading 4-0 into the fourth, the Blue Raiders added two more runs after an RBI single from Kaluau while Sizemore capitalized off a Grenadier error.

In the fifth inning, Brown earned her fourth home run of the season – the second home run of the game for the Blue Raiders – as her solo shot made it a 7-0 ballgame.
