Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson baseball team split their doubleheader with Thomas More, winning game 1 16-6 before dropping the second game 10-7. With the win to open the day the Blue Raiders claimed the series 2-1 after taking the first nine-inning contest yesterday.
GAME 1: LWC 16, TMU 6
Lindsey Wilson drove home three runs in the first inning on two hits and a Thomas More error. Michael Sizemore opened the game with a walk as Chance Stayton reach on a walk. A Koby Wall single then score Sizemore as Stayton later scored on a wild pitch. Lucas Bault drove in the final run with a single through the gap at second base.
The Blue Raiders loaded the bases in the second inning after opening with two straight outs. Thomas More got out of the jam after Nico Martinez flew out to deep left field.
Thomas More broke through in the third inning, leveling the score at three after recording three hits and making use of one Lindsey Wilson error.
Lindsey Wilson wasted no time regaining the lead, scoring four runs in the bottom half of the inning. Wall, Blick, Paulino, Board, and Sizemore all singled in the inning as Paulino, Board, Sizemore, and Stayton all earned RBIs.
Thomas More got one back in the fourth after recording back-to-back singles to open the inning, trimming the LWC lead to 7-4. Lindsey Wilson pushed their lead to six runs in the bottom half of the inning, making use of four hits and an RBI single by Bault, and a two-RBI double from Paulino.
Lindsey Wilson pushed home six runs to Thomas More's two over the final three innings as LWC won on a 16-6 result in the scheduled seven-inning contest.
Kyle Collin (1-1) picked up the win, going three innings with two strikeouts and just three hits. Bault finished the game going 4-for-5 at the plate with three RBIs.
GAME 2: LWC 7, TMU 10
The Blue Raider bats stayed hot to open the second game as they pushed home four runs in the first inning on three hits and two Thomas More errors. Bault, Stayton, Grey each recorded hits as Bault, Martinez, and Gray
Thomas More pulled within one run after a three-run third inning. The Saints used two hits and quality baserunning to push home their runs.
Martinez led off the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot to straightaway center field. Lindsey Wilson loaded the bases later in the inning with no outs but was only able to push one more run home to increase their lead to 6-3.
Thomas More pummeled the Blue Raiders in the fifth inning, scoring five runs on six hits to take their first lead of the afternoon at 8-6. The Saints threatened with more runs in the sixth inning, loading the bases with one out but the Blue Raiders managed to get out of the jam before TMU added another run in the seventh to push their lead to three runs.
The Saints tried to help the Blue Raiders out in the eighth inning, allowing LWC to load the bases with the help of three errors and one Lindsey Wilson hit. With just one out in the inning, Stayton flew out to right field as Paulino got caught in a rundown between third and home got the Saints out of the jam.
Thomas More tacked on another run in the ninth inning as the Blue Raiders scored one of their own but the comeback bid fell short as LWC fell 10-7.
Pedro Ramirez picked up the loss for Lindsey Wilson while Zach Dugan recorded the win for the Saints.
Lindsey Wilson steps out of conference play on Tuesday when they welcome Oakland City to Egnew Park for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m. CT.
