Box Score 2 LEBANON, Tenn. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team picked up two Mid-South Conference road wins this afternoon against Cumberland (Tenn.). Lindsey Wilson gave up just one run across the two contests after opening the day with a 7-0 win before taking game two by a final of 6-1.
The pair split yesterday's doubleheader as the Blue Raiders claimed a 3-1 series win.
GAME 1: LWC 7, CU 0
Lindsey Wilson blanked the Phoenix to open the day, outhitting Cumberland 10-4. Desiree Chang, Kylie Brown, Alexis Garayzar, and Ellie Derrick guided the Blue Raider offense with two hits each.
Emily Boin pitched a complete game for Lindsey Wilson to move to 12-3 on the season. She allowed just four hits while striking out eight across 24 batters.
Lindsey Wilson got on the board in the first inning with two runs. Mikayla Marquez and Makea-Al Kaluau led off with back-to-back singles before moving into scoring position with a passed ball at second and third. Brown then smashed a two-RBI double to left-center field.
With two outs in the third inning, Chang reached on an error before Brown managed her second hit of the game with a single. Garayzar singled up the middle to score one run before Derrick singled to left field to score another run.
The Blue Raiders added three insurance runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded Derrick singled to right field to score Chang. An error by the second baseman during Brooklynn Ott's at-bat allowed Brown and Garayzar to score the final runs of the game.
GAME 2: LWC 6, CU 1
Lindsey Wilson rolled in game two, taking a 6-0 lead through 5-1/2 innings played.
Sadie Werner (8-3) pitched all seven innings strikeout out three across 23 batters while allowing just five hits. Lexi Isable was 3-for-4 at the plate to pace the Blue Raider offense as Derrick managed two hits and a game-high three RBIs.
Lindsey Wilson scored one run in the second, third, and fifth innings. An Elizabeth Funk double scored LWC's first run of the game as Isable scored after reaching base earlier in the second inning on a triple.
With two outs in the third inning, a Kelsie Bostock Single drove in Chang from second who reached base on a single. She advanced into scoring position following an Isable single to right field.
Lindsey Wilson extended their lead to three in the fifth inning thanks to a Derrick solo home run to lead things off.
After back-to-back out to open the sixth inning, Lindsey Wilson pushed three runs home on four hits. Chang scored the first run thanks to a Brown single down the left-field line. Change reached on a single to center field before advancing to second on a passed ball.
Derrick hit her second home run of the afternoon, her seventh this season to lead all Blue Raiders, scoring the final two runs for the Blue Raiders.
Cumberland scored their first run of the day in the sixth inning on two hits as the Blue Raiders went on to win 6-1.
Lindsey Wilson is back at home on Friday and Saturday when they take on Bethel (Tenn.) at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. First pitch on Friday is slated for 2 p.m. CT.
