Softball Splits Doubleheader against No. 15 Georgia Gwinnett

COLUMBIA, Ky. – In the regular-season finale, the Blue Raiders split their doubleheader with No. 15 Georgia Gwinnett on Saturday afternoon at Sparks Park. Lindsey Wilson rolled to a 6-3 win in game one before dropping the second contest on a similar 6-3 result in favor of the Grizzlies.

Lindsey Wilson made use of the long ball all afternoon as Makea-Al Kaluau, Ellie Derrick and Kylie Brown produced home runs. Their efforts were responsible for six of the nine Blue Raider runs on the afternoon.

GAME 1: LWC 6, GGC 3

In a pitcher's duel, Lindsey Wilson's Emily Boin and Georgia Gwinnett's Alexa Good both recorded five strikeouts across the first two innings. It was the Grizzlies who got on the board first, pushing home one run in the third inning thanks to a Penny Wagner RBI double to left-center field.

Lindsey Wilson entered the fourth inning still in search of their first hit and exploded for four hits and five runs. Mikayla Marquez led off the inning with a single before scoring after Kaluau's 49th career home run.

Desiree Chang later singled before Brown reached base after being hit by her 25th pitch of the season. Alexis Garayzar reach base via a fielder's choice dribbler down the third-base line as Chang was forced out at third base. Derrick drove in the final three runs of the inning with her team-leading 10th home run of the season.

The Blue Raiders carried their momentum into the fifth inning, pushing home another run on two hits. Marquez reached base with one out in the inning on a walk before Kaluau singled to left field. The pair advanced into scoring position at second and third on a GGC wild pitch.

Chang pushed the LWC lead to 6-1 with an RBI single through the hole at shortstop, scoring Marquez.

Georgia Gwinnett got one back in the sixth and seventh innings, making use of five hits spread across the final two innings, cutting the Blue Raider lead down to three runs.

Boin picked up her 16th win of the season in the complete-game win. She struck out seven while allowing nine hits and three earned runs. GGC's Good recorded the loss after striking out 11 across six innings of work.

GAME 2: LWC 3, GGC 6

Lindsey Wilson jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead after pushing home runs in the second and third inning. Brown broke the ice with a solo home run, her 10th of the season, in the second. Brown produced an RBI single in the third inning that scored Sizemore who reached earlier in the inning on a single.

The Grizzlies exploded in the fourth inning for six runs on six hits and the help of an LWC error.

Lindsey Wilson trimmed their deficit to three in the bottom half of the inning. Kaluau produced a sac fly to right field that scored Jordan Balz from third base who was on as a pinch-runner for Bostock who opened the inning with a walk. Sizemore and Marquez aided in the one-run effort with singles.

The runs were the final of the contest as Lindsey Wilson fell 6-3.

Lindsey Wilson now turns their attention to the post-season and the Mid-South Conference Opening Round scheduled to take place on Friday at Sparks Park. Their opponent has yet to be determined.
