Box Score COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team opened Mid-South Conference tournament play with a 3-0 win over Thomas More (Ky.) on Thursday evening at Sparks Park.
Emily Boin (17-3) was dominant from the center circle, pitching a no-hitter through six innings of work. She finished the contest allowing just one hit with two walks while adding eight strikeouts across 24 batters.
Still scoreless in the fifth inning Lindsey Wilson pushed home three runs in the bottom half of the inning. Brianna Griffiths led off with a walk before Zakiya Sizemore punched an RBI double to straightaway center field for the first run.
Mikayla Marquez laid down a sacrifice bunt to advance Sizemore one base before a Makea-Al Kaluau singled up the middle drive in Sizemore for the 2-0 lead. Desiree Chang later reached on a fielder's choice before scoring thanks to a Kylie Brown RBI single to centerfield.
Lindsey Wilson managed the only hit of the contest through 4-1/2 innings of play with both pitchers effective from the center circle. Lindsey Wilson's Boin managed eight strikeouts across 16 batters faced while Annika Gels managed five across 23 batters. The pair allowed just three base runners across the span and one hit.
Thomas More showed signs of life in the seventh inning, putting runners on first and second thanks to a leadoff single and an error on a blooper in shallow left field. Three straight flyouts to Marquez in center field secured the shutout win for Lindsey Wilson.
The leadoff single by the Saints was the first and only hit allowed by Boin in the contest.
Lindsey Wilson finished the contest with six hits as Sizemore led the effort with two hits in three appearances. Sizemore, Marquez, and Kaluau each produced the RBIs as Marquez and Kaluau each managed one hit.
The Blue Raiders need just one more win in the three-game series to punch their ticket to the MSC Tournament final site in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
