Van Wyk and Johnson Lead Track and Field at Kentucky College Invitational

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – At the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, the Lindsey Wilson men's and women's track and field teams competed in the second annual Kentucky College Invitational.

At the end of the day, the Blue Raiders garnered 11 individual victories, as well as one relay win to cap off a performance of 49 top-five finishes across the board.

On the men's side of things, Edwin Van Wyk collected his second triumph of the season in the 60-meter dash, sprinting for a personal-best time of 6.95. His efforts narrowly bested teammate Luke Birdsong's second-best run of 7.03. Then, in the 200-meter dash, Van Wyk topped the field with a meet-record time of 22.07. Kelvion Wilson, Kadon Wilson, and David Requejo fell in second, fourth, and fifth, respectively, in that same event.

Later on in the competition, Van Wyk would join forces with Jelle Golbach, David Johns, and Ben Sonnenschein to place first in the 4x400-meter relay.

The Blue Raider sophomore was not the only one setting new standards. In the 600-meter race, Louisville native Nolan Foushee finished just ahead of Justin Stearns (1:24.91) to clock in a winning, meet-record time of 1:24.04. The latter of the two also crossed the line second in the 1,000-meter race (2:40.40), this time besting Foushee who ran to third place on a time of 2:48.83.

Jace Cowman was the last on the men's team to secure a victory on Saturday. The sophomore turned in a mark of 17:48.91 in the 3,000-meter race walk. Elsewhere, John Rowe placed third in the 60-meter hurdles (9.58) and sixth in the high jump (1.65 meters), and Nick Cummins posted top-three efforts in both the 800-meter dash (2:05.28) and one-mile run (4:35.94)

In the field events, Golbach (2nd, 1.95m), Luis Groff (3rd, 1.90m), and Justin Borden (4th, 1.80m) paced Lindsey Wilson in the high jump, with Golbach and Borden each adding top-ten finishes later on in the long jump, and senior Austin Campbell closed with a second-best distance of 14.44 meters in the weight throw and a third-farthest throw of 13.99 meters in the shot put.

As for the women, senior Meredith Johnson sealed two individual victories in the 600 (1:44.51) and 1,000-meter (3:09.08) races. Fellow harriers Olivia Rudder and Kayle Masden each posted top-five runs in both of those events.

The Blue Raiders also swept the shorter sprints with Jordan Nelson winning the 60-meter dash (8.12) and Jozlen Brisbon emerging at the top in the 200-meter dash (25.52). Freshman Kyra Engel placed third in both events, as well.

The locals also picked up top honors with Eliza Hagens (3,000-meter race walk, 20:06.16), Nikki Ravelli (High jump, 1.45m), and Luna Senica (Long jump, 5.63m). Furthermore, Ravelli (5.51m) and Senica each set new meet-best marks in the long jump, while Ravelli, additionally, earned second place in the shot put (10.37m).

Lindsey Wilson resumes its indoor schedule on January 27-28 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Tom Hathaway Challenge.
