CINCINNATI, Ohio – At Centennial Field House, the Lindsey Wilson indoor track and field team competed in the Mount St. Joseph University Invitational.
Out of 14 teams, the Blue Raider men claimed top honors with 129 team points, besting the next closest school by 68 points. The women closed the day tied for third with Georgetown College (Ky.) at 66 points, missing out on a second-place result by just two points.
Men's Highlights
- Sophomore Edwin Van Wyk swept the 60 and 200-meter dashes for the second time this season, posting a personal-best time of 6.92 in the shorter of the two races.
- Another sophomore, Justin Sterns claimed the top spot in the 600-meter dash with a career-best time of 1:24.25. Teammates Marcus Abel and Logan Bullock placed fourth and fifth, respectively in the same race.
- Mark Edmond made his season debut for Lindsey Wilson and racked up wins in the high jump (1.95 meters) and the triple jump (13.27 meters). He also took third place in the long jump (6.57 meters) while fellow jumpers Justin Borden (6.88 meters) and Rayne Jones-Foster (6.59 meters) cleaned up the top two spots in that same event at first and second, respectively.
- Junior Nolan Foushee turned his highest finish of the season in the 800-meter run, coming in third place behind a mark of 1:58.41.
- In the 60-meter hurdles, Elijah Palmer placed just 0.27 seconds behind Bluffton University's Desmond Gist in second place – 8.64.
- The Blue Raiders' A-squad of David Requejo, K'Ron Sherald, Foushee, and Van Wyk captured third in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:34.52.
- Austin Campbell's effort of 15.17 meters in the shot put garnered him second place overall, and Brandon Fields posted a fourth-best toss of 14.22 meters in the weight throw.
Women's Highlights
- Kyra Engel earned top-four finishes in the 200 and 400-meter dashes. She started with a first-place run of 27.03 in the earlier of the two races, then turned in a personal-best time of 1:02.64 in the 400.
- In the 60-meter sprint, Jordan Nelson placed third with a mark of 8.29, improving on her preliminary time by 0.02 and jumping up one spot from fourth in her heat.
- Olivia Rudder finished second and third, respectively, among Mid-South runners in the 600 and 800-meter dashes. Her times of 1:46.40 and 2:32.27 were good for fourth overall in both events.
- The 5,000-meter race saw Lotte Gertler set a new career-best of 20:09.50, helping her pick up second place.
- Lindsey Wilson's A-team of Meredith Johnson, Kaylee Masden, Jamie Moses, and Rudder finished second in the 4x400 relay (4:36.18), followed by the B-team of Zoe Wilson, Laura Cuin-Casimiro and Eliza Hagens (4:42.05).
- Malorie Carter (weight throw), Nikki Ravelli (shot put), and Shamari Vaughn (long jump) each placed third in their respective throwing events.
Next on the docket for the Blue Raiders is the 2023 Mid-South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which are currently scheduled for February 17 in Louisville, Ky.
