LOUISVILLE, Ky. – At the Norton Healthcare Sports and Learning Center, four Blue Raiders claimed individual titles while 16 total student-athletes garnered all-conference status at the 2023 Mid-South Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships.
All told, both the Lindsey Wilson men's and women's teams placed fourth among their respective nine-team fields. The overall team result is the sixth-straight top-four finish for the women's program, while the men record their highest placement since the 2020 season.
On the track, Justin Sterns and Meredith Johnson swept the 1,000-meter races with winning times of 2:31.52 and 3:06.53, in that order. The victory of Johnson avenges a runner-up finish by the senior in the same event a year ago. Then, in the field events, Jelle Golbach and Luna Senica repeated as Mid-South champions in the high jump and the long jump, respectively. On top of their meet-best efforts, the duo each met NAIA standards with Golbach picking up an "A" standard with a championship-record leap of 2.06 meters, and Senica notching a "B" standard on her jump of 5.58 meters, which tied the conference's championship record.
Austin Campbell highlighted Lindsey Wilson's quartet of 2nd-Team All-Conference recipients, picking up a pair of second-place finishes in the shot put (14.60 meters) and weight throw (15.85 meters) to make him a two-time all-league honoree in both events. Another Blue Raider bringing home their second All-Mid-South accolade was Jozlen Brisbon in the 60-meter sprint. The sophomore's "A"-standard time of 7.55 helped her cross the line one spot higher than she did in 2022.
Elijah Palmer (60-meter hurdles) and Edwin Van Wyk (200-meter dash) also earned 2nd-Team status with their individual performances. The latter of the two ran a "B"-standard cut of 21.79, while Palmer turned in a mark of 8.56.
Eight different Blue Raiders secured Third-Team All-Mid-South distinction, including Olivia Rudder in the 1,000-meter race (3:10.65) and as a member of the women's 4x800-meter relay team, which also featured Kaylee Masden, Alyssa Sharp, and Laura Cuin.
Nolan Foushee (800-meter dash, 1:58.24), Eliza Hagens (3,000-meter walk race, 18:46.32), Malorie Carter (weight throw, 14.31 meters) and Borden (high jump, 1.96 meters) also closed with Third-Team efforts.
Lindsey Wilson will now start preparing for the 2023 NAIA Indoor Track and Field National Championships, which are actively scheduled for March 2-4 at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex in Brookings, South Dakota.
