COLUMBIA, Ky. – At Marilyn D. Sparks Park, the visiting Bears of Shawnee State University plated three runs in the top half of the seventh inning to pull away and ultimately defeat the Lindsey Wilson softball team, 6-3, in their series finale.

After the Blue Raiders had methodically crawled back to tie the game at 3-3, it was the road team striking again for another late-game push. In all, Shawnee State wound up outscoring Lindsey Wilson 11-6 in the sixth and seventh innings of this weekend's slate.

For the locals on Saturday, five different batters contributed hits, including Tanlee Hudgins with an RBI-triple, and Za'Kiya Sizemore with an extra-base hit of her own.

Freshman Grace Adams made her second start of the series and went 6.1 innings while recording four strikeouts and allowing six earned runs on eight hits.

The visitors opened the scoring for the first time during the weekend with a three-piece in the top leg of the first.

Over the next five innings, Adams and the Lindsey Wilson defense did well to limit the Bears' chances, creating an opportunity for the offense to get the Blue Raiders back into the game.

The home side's first tally of the afternoon came in the bottom half of the third inning when a deep fly ball into the right-field corner allowed Sizemore to score and Hudgins to slide into third base with a triple.

Then, in the fourth inning, Brylee Pickerell laid down an RBI-single to bring Kelsie Bostock across before a bases-loaded walk to Madyson Jones in the following frame eventually knotted the game.

Lindsey Wilson concludes its latest homestand on Tuesday afternoon when Union College (Ky.) comes to Columbia for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m. CST.
