Softball Splits Doubleheader Against Asbury

COLUMBIA, Ky. - The Lindsey Wilson softball team split a doubleheader on Tuesday against Asbury at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.

The Blue Raiders (12-14) dropped game one 6-0 and picked up a 9-1 victory in six innings in the second game.

Brooklynn Ott went 3-for-3 in the first game. Alexis Garayzar was the only other Blue Raider with multiple hits in game one.

Lindsey Wilson hit four home runs in the second game. Amanda Schick hit two home runs while Kelsie Bostock and Madyson Jones each hit one. Schick had three hits while Bostock recorded two. Olivia Franceschi pitched a complete-game allowing one run on six hits with eight strikeouts.

Game 1: Asbury 6 Lindsey Wilson 0

Funk reached on a leadoff walk in the bottom of the second inning. Following an out, Ott singled to left to advance Funk to third. Back-to-back strikeouts ended the Lindsey Wilson threat. In the bottom of the third the Blue Raiders had another chance to get on the board. Following a Sizemore walk, Garayzar doubled to left field. Sizemore tried scoring from first but got thrown out at the plate.

Asbury struck first in the top of the fifth inning. Back-to-back one-out hits put Eagle runners at second and third. The Eagles got on the board with two runs coming across on a Lindsey Wilson wild pitch. Asbury built on its lead in the sixth scoring four runs. The Eagles reached on a leadoff error. Three-straight hits increased the Asbury lead to 5-0. The Eagles would score one more run in the inning to take a 6-0 advantage.

Game 2: Lindsey Wilson 9 Asbury 1 (6 innings)

Asbury struck first with a leadoff home run by Natalie Ison in the top of the second inning. The Blue Raiders took the lead on back-to-back solo home runs by Schick and Bostock in the bottom of the inning. Franceschi struck out the side in the top half of the third and struck out seven of the first 11 batters she faced.

Jones increased the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-1 on a two-run home run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Chang reached on a leadoff single in the bottom of the fifth then advanced to second on an error. Following a sacrifice bunt, Garayzar drove in Chang to increase the Blue Raider lead to 5-1. After a Hudgins double, Schick hit her second home run of the game to give Lindsey Wilson an 8-1 lead.  Brylee Pickerell hit an RBI-double to enforce the run-rule as the Blue Raiders got the 9-1 victory.
