FLORENCE, Ky. – At Thomas More Stadium, the 10 days off in-between games did not seem to phase the Lindsey Wilson softball team as much as the homestanding Saints may have hoped. Instead, the Blue Raiders got their offensive gears grinding for 24 total runs across 21 hits to extend their season-long win-streak to six games.

On the day, Za'Kiya Sizemore produced a team-leading five runs batted in on four hits, and Alexis Garayzar, Desiree Chang and Cheyenne Sandoval each contributed three hits while combining for 10 RBIs.

Game One | Lindsey Wilson 14, Thomas More 6

The visitors got right to work in the top half of the first inning, attacking Thomas More starter Cassidy King with four runs on three hits.

Following a lead-off walk to Chang and a single by Sizemore, Garayzar stepped up and dropped a two-run RBI-double into left field. Then, two batters later, Tanlee Hudgins cleared the bases with the first home run of her young career, bringing Lindsey Wilson's early lead to 4-0.

The Saints answered back with a solo home run of their own in their first plate appearance and added a second run in the second inning to trim the Blue Raider lead in half.

In the third frame, Elizabeth Funk found her way aboard with one of her three walks on the afternoon. After moving up a bag on a wild pitch, the junior was plated by a single off the bat of Amanda Schick. Lindsey Wilson's designated player scored later in the inning along with Brylee Pickerell. The two base runners navigated their way back around to the dugout courtesy of a two-out double by Sizemore.

A bases-loaded walk in the top of the fourth expanded the Blue Raiders' advantage to 8-2, but Thomas More did not go away quietly. In the next half-inning, the hosts managed four runs against Lindsey Wilson reliever Savannah Robbins, drawing them within two runs in a matter of just two hits.

However, in the top leg of the sixth inning, the locals tacked on a crooked, momentum-killing five-piece to break into double figures in scoring for the first time this season.

Chang, Sizemore, Sandoval, and Hudgins all chipped in RBIs during the late barrage, including a two-runner by Chang and back-to-back extra-base hits by Sizemore and Sandoval.

Leading 13-6, the Blue Raider defense locked in to allow only one more hit over the Saints' final two at-bats. Lindsey Wilson also added another insurance tally in its last plate appearance with an RBI-double by Chang.

Abigail Cruz, who had exited the game in the fourth inning, returned in the bottom of the sixth frame and proceeded to complete the game to confirm her third victory of the season. The sophomore retired two on strikes and surrendered three earned runs.

Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 10, Thomas More 7

The Blue Raiders needed to orchestrate a comeback in order to pull off a win in game two. Trailing 6-4 entering the sixth inning, Lindsey Wilson wound up outscoring the Saints 6-1 over the final two innings to do just that.

In the go-ahead frame, Pickerell started the rally off with a lead-off walk and was swiftly advanced to second on a fielder's choice groundout. Then, Sizemore drew a trip down to first base after taking a pitch off her upper arm. That cleared the way for Garayzar to send a ground-rule double over the outfield fence, plating Pickerell. Sizemore, who had to be held up at third base on Garayzar's hit, was sent home soon after when an infield dribbler by Sandoval was mishandled by the Thomas More defense.

Lindsey Wilson managed to score its third run of the frame off a wild pitch, restoring the Blue Raiders' lead at 7-6.

A trio of consecutive hits in the top half of the seventh inning proved to be the dagger, as one run came across for the locals on each of those plays to increase the cushion to 10-6.

Despite the Saints applying some pressure in the following half-inning, reliever Olivia Franceschi worked herself out of a bases-loaded jam to secure the win and notch her first victory of the year.

Freshman Grace Adams garnered the start for Lindsey Wilson in game two. She also made a brief appearance in game one. All told, she pitched 5.2 innings, allowed three earned runs, and struck out four.

The Blue Raiders return home to Marilyn D. Sparks Park on Wednesday, March 8 to host Midway University (Ky.). The first pitch of the non-conference doubleheader is slated for 1 p.m. CST.
