Box Score 2 McKENZIE, Tenn. – The Blue Raider softball team fell in back-to-back contests with Bethel University on Saturday afternoon. Lindsey Wilson was narrowly out-hit by the hosts, 18-15, but the Wildcats got the larger edge where it mattered most, outscoring the locals, 14-4 on the day.
Brooklynn Ott knocked in three of the visitor's runs on three hits and a walk, while Tanlee Hudgins and Za'Kiya Sizemore also contributed three hits apiece.
Game One | Bethel 4, Lindsey Wilson 2
Despite an errorless outing in game one, the Blue Raiders could not overcome a three-run third inning by the Wildcats despite matching them in total hits.
Both sides managed one hit in each of their first two plate appearances, as well as an additional baserunner to put the opposing pitcher in an early jam. However, neither offense was able to bring across those early chances. That is until the third frame where Bethel broke through with a crooked three-piece.
Lindsey Wilson began to mount a comeback in the top leg of the fourth when a base-hit by Ott plated Madyson Jones to get the Blue Raiders on the board.
After the Wildcats answered back with a single run of their own in the bottom half of the inning, the locals got it right back in the fifth on a bases-loaded walk to Ott to score Hudgins.
The visitors put two runners aboard in their following at-bat but left them both stranded, clearing the way for Bethel to hang on to its lead.
Abigail Cruz fired a complete, six-inning effort in the circle for Lindsey Wilson. The sophomore allowed four earned runs on eight hits and retired one Wildcat on strikes.
Game Two | Bethel 10, Lindsey Wilson 2
Bethel jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after the first inning of game two, and the lockdown pitching of Grace Adams helped Lindsey Wilson stay within striking distance early.
In the fourth frame, Amanda Schick led off with a single into the grass, then three batters later, Ott continued her impressive day with an RBI-double to bring the Blue Raiders' lead-off batter around to score.
The light barrage proceeded later on in the inning when Jones delivered an extra-base tally to plate Ott and tie the game at 2-2.
Unfortunately, that was all the locals were able to find as the Wildcats went on to score eight unanswered to close the contest after five innings.
Adams finished her outing by going four innings and punching out three on strikes.
Lindsey Wilson and Bethel meet again on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. CST to wrap up their three-game conference series.
