Box Score 2 COLUMBIA, Ky. – The Lindsey Wilson softball team dropped a conference doubleheader on Saturday against No. 14 Freed-Hardeman at Marilyn D. Sparks Park. Pitching proved to be the dominant factor in both games, as the Blue Raiders fell in two low-scoring contests, 2-1 and 4-0.
Za'Kiya Sizemore led the Blue Raiders in hits with four across the two games and Cheyenne Sandoval earned the only RBI on the day.
Game One | Lindsey Wilson 1, Freed-Hardeman 2
After being tied at one for five innings, the Lions earned an RBI-single in the top of the sixth inning to take a 2-1 lead. Chloe Winters held the Blue Raiders scoreless for the remainder of the contest to hold on to the victory.
Both teams got on the board early in game one as an RBI-single put the Lions up 1-0 in the top of the first inning. The Blue Raiders responded in the bottom half of the inning with a Sandoval RBI-sac fly to score Desiree Chang.
Although the Blue Raiders earned eight hits throughout the game, the first inning was the only time the Blue Raiders saw a run cross the plate.
Abigail Cruz earned the start on the mound and pitched 5.1 innings. Cruz allowed seven hits, two runs, one walk, and recorded three strikeouts. Savannah Robbins came on in relief and retired all five batters she faced.
Game Two | Lindsey Wilson 0, Freed-Hardeman 4
A shut-out by Brittany Adair and the long ball powered Freed-Hardeman past Lindsey Wilson in game two.
The Lions scored in the first inning once again, as an RBI-single and a two-run homer gave Freed-Hardeman a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
The Lions scored one more run in the sixth inning off a solo home run to make the score 4-0.
The Blue Raiders looked to rally in the seventh as Kelsie Bostock earned a lead-off walk. Elizabeth Funk followed that up with a double, but Natalie Shaw was tagged out on the way to home and the last two batters were retired to end the game.
Robbins was solid in relief allowing three hits, one run, two walks, and recording one strikeout in six innings of work.
These two squads are set to face off in the series finale on Sunday at 11 a.m. CT.
