DANVILLE, Ky – Lindsey Wilson track and field wraps up its performance at the Centre Invite as the men's team place fifth and the women's finish eighth overall on Saturday in Danville, Ky. The men's side had a total of 69 team points just 1.5 points away from fourth as the women scored 40 points and six points from cracking the top five, respectively.
For the second straight week, Malorie Carter and Nikki Ravelli were crowned first in the hammer and javelin throw after tosses of 43.16 meters from Carter in the hammer throw and 38.27 meters in the javelin by Ravelli. The freshman also brought home the gold in the long jump with a B standard distance of 5.7 meters.
Justin Borden took first in the men's long jump as well with a 7.11-meter leap. Austin Campbell placed third in the shot put as Luis Groff and Jelle Golbach tied for fifth place in the high jump after clearing a height of 1.85 meters.
In the women's 10,000-meter run, senior runner Meredith Johnson stood in second on the podium as Laura Cuin-Casimiro followed up in fifth place and Lotte Gertler in eighth place, respectively. Alyssa Sharp finished third in the women's 3000-meter steeplechase.
On the men's side, Justin Stearns led all competitors in the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:05.97 as Golbach fell just shy of first in the 110-meter hurdles after finishing in 15.41 seconds. After two A-standard performances last week in the 100 and 200-meter dash, Edwin Van Wyk brought home the bronze in both events after times of 10.82 seconds and 22.89 seconds, respectively.
Lindsey Wilson track & field heads to Williamsburg next week Friday, April 7 when they compete in the Cumberlands Invitational.
