WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. – At this weekend's Gordon Bocock Cumberlands Invitational & Distance Festival, the Lindsey Wilson men's and women's track and field teams worked around cold and rainy conditions to secure respective top-five finishes.
Four Blue Raiders claimed top honors in their individual events, including three on the women's side to help guide them to a fifth-place effort, while the men accumulated 13 total top-five performances to position them in third place.
Men's Highlights
- Freshman Elijah Palmer and junior Jelle Golbach swept the top two spots in the 110-meter hurdles in first and second, respectively. Palmer's winning time of 15.35 is the fastest by a Blue Raider through three meets this season.
- Senior Austin Campbell tossed a "B"-standard of 15.46 meters in the shot put to earn him second place overall. Freshman LeAndre Bolen narrowly missed on a personal-best but finished fourth with a distance of 13.65 meters.
- Sophomore Justin Stearns and junior Nolan Foushee both collected multiple top-five placements, including second and third-place runs, respectively in the 800-meter dash. Elsewhere, the latter of the two stamped a second-place time of 4:01.30 in the 1,500-meter run, and Stearns and fellow sophomore Marcus Abel closed in third and fourth in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase, in that order.
- Sophomore Jace Cowman notched a new career-best in the 5,000-meter race walk, coming in second place with a time of 29:13.71.
- Junior Justin Borden soared to top-five finishes in both the high jump (3rd; 1.95 meters) and the long jump (5th; 6.81 meters).
- In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Edwin Van Wyk topped his heat with a mark of 21.63 and placed third overall.
- Junior Brandon Fields launched a personal-best in the discus of 45.03 meters, which locked him in third among a field of 38 event competitors.
- In the fifth leg of the decathlon, the 400-meter dash, sophomore David Johns ran a top-time of 53.18. He ultimately placed ninth after ten events.
Women's Highlights
- Junior Luna Senica clinched the long jump with a "B"-standard effort of 5.72 meters, her farthest leap in the event since the 2022 NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships last May in which she posted a jump of 5.76 meters.
- Senior Meredith Johnson overtook the lead on the final lap to win the 1,500-meter race with a time of 4:50.01. It is her first-ever victory in the event.
- Freshman Nikki Ravelli captured her third consecutive win in the javelin toss by besting her career-mark from a week ago with a toss of 38.68 meters.
- Sophomore Alexis Hale garnered a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 1:15.99.
- In the 5,000-meter race walk, Eliza Hagens and Cady Schoeck placed third and fifth, respectively, with times of 31:51.01 and 34:34.94.
Lindsey Wilson returns to Danville, Kentucky next weekend to compete in the Centre College Track & Field Twilight.
