COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Oakland City (Ind.) on Wednesday evening at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex, winning two of three doubles matches before sweeping all six singles contests.
The Blue Raiders (7-2) started strong by securing the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 1 positions. No. 7-ranked duo Mayra Gisone and Anastasiia Ivanchenko set the tone with a dominant 6-0 victory at No. 2. Heyka Rodriguez and Anastasiia Vorobiova then clinched the point with a 6-3 win at No. 1. Oakland City avoided the sweep with a win at No. 3 doubles, where Melissa de Jong and Maja Schmitt defeated Martina Cortal and Mariangeles Mateu, 6-4.
Holding a 1-0 lead, Lindsey Wilson wasted no time in singles action. Anastasiia Ivanchenko was the first to finish, securing a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tiana Sparks at No. 3. No. 11 Anastasiia Vorobiova quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 against Maria Trembach, putting the Blue Raiders up 3-0.
No. 16 Mariangeles Mateu delivered the clinching point at No. 2 singles with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Cristina Hurtado, officially sealing the match at 4-0. Lindsey Wilson continued its dominance as Mayra Gisone added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 4 over Melissa de Jong, while Heyka Rodriguez defeated Juliana Puente, 6-0, 6-3 at No. 5.
The sweep was completed when Lucia Perez closed out the match with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Maja Schmitt at No. 6, securing the 7-0 final score.
The Blue Raiders return to action on the road this Sunday, March 16, at 2 p.m. CT against No. 16-ranked Marian University (Ind.) in Indianapolis.
