GEORGETOWN, Ky. – Behind stellar pitching from the likes of
Hallie Roberts,
Grace Adams, and
Kayden Murray, the Blue Raider softball team stretched its season-long winning streak to four games with a pair of victories at Georgetown (Ky.).
Lindsey Wilson's trio allowed just two earned runs on 10 hits and combined for 18 strikeouts.
Offensively,
Brooklynn Becker hit 4-for-6, while
Natalie Wandrie,
Atavya Fowler,
Brylee Pickerell, and
Kaiden Rodgers each drove in three runs.
Game One: Lindsey Wilson 12, Georgetown 2 (5 Innings)
Roberts dealt four brilliant innings from the rubber for the Blue Raiders in game one. The freshman kept the Tigers off the scoreboard to extend her scoreless streak to 13 innings. She also chipped in four strikeouts and surrendered just one hit, marking her third outing of the season of at least four innings pitched, two or fewer hits allowed, and zero runs scored.
Lindsey Wilson opened the scoring in the top of the first frame when Fowler scored on a squeeze bunt by Rodgers.
Then, in the second inning, the visitor's pounced for six runs on five hits, starting with a solo home run from Wandrie to lead things off, her second of the season. Later in the frame, the Blue Raiders loaded the bases and plated two runs on an infield error and a
Sam Hartman single to center field. Rodgers kept the barrage going strong with a two-run RBI-double, followed by a sacrifice fly by Pickerell and an RBI-single from
Kendall Dailey to give Lindsey Wilson a 7-0 advantage.
After an empty third inning, Lindsey Wilson struck again in the fourth as Wandrie recorded her second hit of the game and brought in two runs with it.
Nora Epley joined in the action three batters later with a two-out, two-run RBI-double and ballooned the lead to 11-0.
A Dailey double to score Pickerell in the top of the fifth inning stood as the Blue Raiders' 12th and final run of the game. It is the second time this season Lindsey Wilson has cracked the double-digit threshold.
Adams stepped into the circle for Lindsey Wilson to pitch the fifth inning. Despite a small push by Georgetown, Adams and the defense maintained their composure to secure the run-rule win.
Game Two: Lindsey Wilson 6, Georgetown 0
For the second time this season, Murray tied a personal-best with 14 strikeouts en route to her eighth career complete-game shutout. The sophomore tallied multiple strikeouts in six of her seven innings pitched and retired five of the last seven Tiger batters she faced on strikes.
Just as they did in game one, the Blue Raiders found the scoreboard first in their opening plate appearance. Epley led off the frame with a single to left field, then Fowler reached on a hit-by-pitch. The pair worked their way around the bags off the bat of Pickerell who singled into center field to give Lindsey Wilson a 2-0 edge.
Two innings later, Epley, again, opened the at-bat with a base-hit, this time a double to the fence. The next hitter, Fowler, wasted no time getting her first hit of the game as she popped her third home run in four games to left-center field.
From there, Murray and the Blue Raider defense limited Georgetown to three hits to lock up a series-opening sweep.
Lindsey Wilson will be back at the Tigers Softball Complex at noon CST on Friday, March 14 for a single seven-inning contest to wrap the series.
