GULF SHORES, Ala. – For a second-straight day the Lindsey Wilson softball team split at the Gulf Coast Invitational Saturday at Gulf Shores Five Plex.
The Blue Raiders (9-9) defeated Faulkner (Ala.) 7-2 before falling to No. 13 William Carey (Miss.) 4-1.
Kaiden Rodgers went 2-for-4 in the win over Faulkner driving in a pair and hitting a home run.
Sam Hartman hit a two-run home run in the game while
Natalie Wandrie drove in a pair.
Kayden Murray pitched a complete game allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six.
The Blue Raiders tallied just three hits in the loss to William Carey.
Nora Epley led the way going 2-for-3 while Wandrie had the other hit and drove in the only run for Lindsey Wilson.
Hallie Roberts pitched all seven innings allowing four runs on nine hits, four walks and striking out three.
Lindsey Wilson 7, Faulkner 2
Back-to-back one-out hits gave the Eagles a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. Rodgers tied the game 1-1 in the top of the second with a solo home run. Following back-to-back outs to begin the third, Fowler singled to left field. Hartman then hit a two-run home run giving the Blue Raiders a 3-1 lead.
Faulkner led off the bottom of the fourth with an infield single and then got a runner in scoring position after a sacrifice bunt. Murray got the next two batters out to end the inning and keep the Lindsey Wilson lead 3-1. Rodgers increased the Blue Raiders lead to 4-1 in the fifth inning on an RBI-double. Faulkner trimmed the Lindsey Wilson lead to 4-2 with a leadoff home run in the bottom of the sixth. The Blue Raiders increased their lead to 7-2 in the seventh inning.
Lindsey Wilson 1, William Carey 4
William Carey scored three runs in the top of the first on a two-RBI double and a bases loaded walk. After the first inning where the Blue Raiders had a hit and drew two walks, Lindsey Wilson was retired in order in the next four innings.
The Crusaders led off the top of the fifth inning with a single to center field. Following a sacrifice bunt and a stolen base, William Carey increased its lead to 4-0 on an RBI-single.
Nora Epley reached on a one-out double in the bottom of the sixth ending a streak of 14-straight retired Blue Raiders.
Kendall Dailey led off the bottom of the seventh reaching on an error. Following an out, Dailey stole second and scored on an RBI-single from Wandrie to make it 4-1.
The Blue Raiders close out the Gulf Coast Invitational on Sunday at 9 a.m. CT against Texas A&M University-San Antonio
