COLUMBIA, Ky. – No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis continued its strong form in its home opener, securing a 6-1 victory over No. 14 St. Thomas (Fla.) on Sunday evening at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex. The Blue Raiders (6-2) swept the doubles point before taking five of six singles matches to extend their winning streak.
Lindsey Wilson started the match with a dominant doubles performance. The No. 7-ranked duo of Mayra Gisone and Anastasiia Ivanchenko set the tone at No. 2 with a 6-2 win over Sezin Akin and Caterina Antonini. Shortly after, Heyka Rodriguez and Anastasiia Vorobiova secured the doubles point with a commanding 6-1 victory over Anita Chornei and Sofia Nardone at No. 1. Aina Domingo Bernabeu and Mariangeles Mateu completed the sweep with a 6-3 win at No. 3 against Jenesie Burgos and Lauren Fullerton, giving the Blue Raiders a 1-0 advantage.
In singles action, No. 11-ranked Vorobiova quickly doubled the lead for Lindsey Wilson, overpowering Antonini 6-2, 6-0 at No. 2. No. 21-ranked Domingo Bernabeu followed with a near-flawless performance at No. 1, defeating Lauren Seemann 6-0, 6-1 to push the Blue Raiders' lead to 3-0. Gisone then clinched the match at No. 5 with a commanding 6-0, 6-0 victory over Nardone, securing Lindsey Wilson's fourth point.
The Bobcats (2-9) claimed their only win of the day at No. 3 singles, where No. 40-ranked Chornei edged No. 16-ranked Mateu in a tight 7-5, 7-5 contest. However, the Blue Raiders responded as Ivanchenko closed out a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 4 over Akin. The match concluded with an intense battle at No. 6, where Rodriguez mounted a comeback, overcoming Burgos 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 in a third-set tiebreaker to complete the 6-1 victory.
