COLUMBIA, Ky. – The "Battle of Highway 55" hits the dirt diamond this weekend as the Lindsey Wilson softball team travels north to Campbellsville (Ky.) to take on the 25
th-ranked Tigers.
The Blue Raiders and Campbellsville each have over 50 wins in head-to-head meetings, including one for Lindsey Wilson in the 2024 Mid-South Conference tournament that ultimately eliminated the Tigers from the postseason.
Campbellsville comes in with a 5-4 record in conference play after taking two out of three from Cumberland (Tenn.) earlier this week. Sophomore Jessie Daniels added two home runs to her season total as part of her six hits in the series. The Owensboro native not only leads the NAIA with 15 home runs but is the only Mid-South hitter in double figures.
As a team, the Tigers boast the league's top hitting percentage at 0.369, which is slightly higher than their batting average against conference opponents – 0.361.
Junior Emma Markham, a John A. Logan College (Ill.) transfer and Warren East High School graduate, ranks third in the Mid-South with a 2.56 earned run average and fourth for total strikeouts with 49. Her teammate Ellie Coley actively leads the league with three saves.
Lindsey Wilson is also fresh off a series win over Freed-Hardeman (Tenn.) on Monday and Tuesday. The Blue Raiders hit 0.280 to clinch their second Mid-South series of the season.
Graduate seniors
Kendall Dailey and
Brylee Pickerell have been in a rhythm as of late. The latter of the two has driven in three runs on seven hits, stolen three bases, and scored a team-high six runs in the last six games, while Dailey is on a six-game hit streak with a team-best eight hits.
In her career against Campbellsville, Pickerell is batting 0.440. That includes 11 hits, three doubles, two home runs, and eight runs batted-in.
Kayden Murray is 3-0 in her last four appearances. The sophomore is closing in on 300 strikeouts for her career and sports a 1.67 earned run average in three starts versus the Tigers.
