COLUMBIA, Ky. – With the Mid-South Conference tournament opening next Wednesday in Clarksville, Tennessee, and less than favorable weather on the way, the Lindsey Wilson softball team will host Cumberland (Tenn.) for its regular season finale on Wednesday, April 23 and Thursday, April 24.
The Blue Raiders are coming off their third conference series win of the season this past weekend at Bethel (Tenn.), during which
Brylee Pickerell,
Sam Hartman, and
Natalie Wandrie each had five hits, a stolen bases, and at least three runs batted in.
Cumberland last played over the weekend at home against Georgetown (Ky.), taking two out of three games from the Tigers. Prior to that, the Phoenix had lost nine of 10 conference games, including a 0-6 record on the road.
In the series with Georgetown, Ashley Evans batted 6-for-9 with a triple and two runs batted in. The graduate senior ranks tied for second in the Mid-South for hitting percentage at 0.445. She also sports the third-most hits and triples.
Pitching wise, Madison Croxford leads the Phoenix rotation with eight wins and a 4.46 earned run average. Her 70 strikeouts are third-most in the league, and she recently fired a complete-game effort in which she allowed one earned run on four hits with eight strikeouts to help Cumberland beat Georgetown 3-1.
The Blue Raider offense is led by Hartman and Wandrie, who both enter on respective five-game hit streaks. Over that span, Hartman is hitting 0.471 with eight hits and six runs batted in, while Wandrie has eight RBIs on nine hits.
On the rubber,
K'Asia Palmer picked up her third win of the season at Bethel (Tenn.). She is now 3-0 on the year with two of those victories coming in conference play. Fellow sophomore
Kayden Murray grabbed her second save of the year, making her one of just five Mid-South pitchers with multiple saves this season and one of two with multiple saves and eight or more wins. The other one being Cumberland's Croxford.
Lindsey Wilson split its regular season series with the Phoenix last year in Lebanon.
This week's series opens with a doubleheader at 3 p.m. CST on Wednesday, April 23, followed by a single game at 10 a.m. CST on Thursday, April 24.
The Blue Raiders will host "Grandparents Day" during Wednesday's slate. Grandparents of Lindsey Wilson softball players will be invited to join the team on the field during the introduction of the lineups prior to the first game.
The team will also celebrate its "Senior Day" at 10 a.m. CST on Sunday, April 27 at Marilyn D. Sparks Park.
Brooklynn Becker,
Olivia Franceschi,
Katie Lorenz, and
Savannah Robbins are each due to be recognized.
