COLUMBIA, Ky. – The No. 3-ranked Lindsey Wilson women's tennis team wrapped up its regular-season home slate with a dominant 7-0 win over No. 23 Bethel (Tenn.) on Tuesday afternoon at the Henry Baughman Tennis Complex.
The Blue Raiders (12-2, 4-0 MSC) honored seniors Anastasiia Vorobiova, Anastasiia Ivanchenko, and Aina Domingo Bernabeu before sweeping both doubles and singles play for their 11th straight win.
Lindsey Wilson struck first in doubles behind a 6-0 sweep on court three by Bernabeu and Mariangeles Mateu. Ivanchenko and Mayra Gisone followed with a 6-1 win at No. 2 to secure the doubles point. Vorobiova and Heyka Rodriguez completed the sweep with a 6-4 result at No. 1.
Up 1-0, the Blue Raiders quickly built on their lead in singles. Mateu, ranked No. 23 nationally, gave LWC a 2-0 advantage with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 3. No. 8-ranked Vorobiova followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 2 over Camila Barragan Canas.
Bernabeu, ranked No. 18 in the nation, clinched the match at No. 1 singles, defeating Sofia Canto 6-4, 6-4 to extend her win streak at the top spot to 10 straight matches. The graduate standout has not dropped a set during the run.
Gisone made it 5-0 after blanking Tessa Mtutu 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5. Ivanchenko rallied for a 3-6, 7-5, 10-4 comeback win at No. 4, and Martina Cortal capped off the sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2 p.m. CT Wednesday afternoon with a road conference matchup against Georgetown (Ky.).
